San Fancisco Food Not Bombs - The Legacy.

Perhaps the most famous chapter of Food Not Bombs was started in San Francisco. Since 1988 the San Francisco chapter has been harrassed and unfairly persecuted by the police, and over 1,000 people have been arrested for a wide variety of charges. Cooking equipment has been illegally confiscated and destroyed and 12 vehicles stolen by the police. The city's policy on the homeless has consistenly been "out of sight, out of mind" and the San Francisco chapter has violated this policy repeatedly by holding protests, campouts and by simply feeding the hungry. The reaction to the group by authority figures has forced Food Not Bombs to use tactics such as hiding portions of food and people to bring out after the first group has been arrested etc. However, their noteriety in the legal world has made them one of the most successful Food Not Bombs Chapters in existance.
