Q.Those model boats don't really sail, do they? There must be a motor, right?
A. No, there is no motor. These boats really do sail just like their full size counterparts.

Q. How do you control it?
A. The sailboats are radio controlled. There are things called servos that mount in the hull that move the rudder (for steering) and haul the sails in and out.

Q. Do I have to know how to sail to join the club and participate?
A. No. The members are friendly and will help you learn the basics.

Q. How hard is it to build the Soling 1 meter kit?
A. These kit is are not overly challenging to build. If you have ever built an R/C model before, you will have no problem. If not, the club members can give you tips to make the job easier.

Q. Where can I purchase a kit?
A. The kits are available locally at the Competition Hobby Supplies on Route 9 in Latham. You can also order one directly from the manufacturer, Victor Model Products.

Q. How much does it cost to get into this hobby?
A. Typically the Soling kit costs around $135. Add to that a two channel radio (around $60), a sail winch servo (less than $60), rechargeable batteries, charger, paint etc, for a total cost of less than $300.

Q. Where can I find more information on the Soling 1 meter?
A. Check out the links page. The Soling One Meter Resource Center on the MODELYACHT.ORG site is a prime location for information. Both building tips and tuning information are presented.
