Race Recap / News - October 6, 2009

Tuesday was the final race day for the Fall Season. We had eleven boats racing. Bob Powers was the eleventh skipper. Bob only sailed in the first three races. It was great seeing Bob again.

The fleet looked spectacular on a sunny autumn afternoon. The wind never lived up to the 10 - 15 mph that was forecast. At times the breeze was super, and at other times it was calm to light and variable. The results are summarized below in Table 2. Dean Perry won Phil's Caddy for the sixth time this year.

The final results of the Fall series are shown below in Table 1. Ted Smith, Bob Fritze, and Dean Perry came in first, second and third respectively. Congratulations!!

The final results for the 2009 season are summarized below in Table 3. Ted Smith, Bob Fritze, and Dean Perry came in first, second and third respectively. Peter Meixner came in fourth place, and Hank Bickel garnered fifth place. Lee Zimmer and Marcel Zucchino tied for sixth place. Congratulations to all!!

Next Tuesday (10/13), we will do a round of match racing. The racing will start at 3 PM. After sailing is completed, we will adjourn to the Red Lobster for a Dutch treat dinner and season awards. Based on the previous two years, we seem to congregate at the Red Lobster a bit before 6 PM. At this point it looks like five spouses will be joining us.

If you review the results of table 1, you will notice that Dean did not do well in the first three races. After he changed his keel, he did much better. The surface of the original keel was very rough, compared to other keels. I appears like the surface created a significant amount of drag.
