Until there are none - Rescue one

What is the Foster Care Program?

  • Many cats are homeless, living and breeding on the streets..
  • Some pets are abandoned, pregnant or already have a litter of kittens.
  • Individual rescuers place some cats and kittens in the homes of volunteer fosters, who take care of them temporarily.
  • By providing a safe environment these cats are saved from an outdoor feral existence or premature death.
  • Once the animals are socialized, spay/neutered and vaccinated they are ready to be adopted.

What kind of animals can be placed in foster care?

  • Young kittens, with or without nursing moms.
  • Kittens in need of socialization to become comfortable with humans.
  • Cats recovering from injuries, surgery or other treatable illness.
  • Senior cats in need of permanent foster care.
  • Surrendered pet cats that need a home environment until adopted.

What does the CNYCC Volunteer Sponsor provide?

  • Basic medical care such as worm, flea and ear mite treatment.
  • No cost Spay/Neuter and Vaccinations for all fostered animals.
  • Low or no cost dry nutritious cat food, and litter.
  • Good size protective crate/cage for indoor separate housing from your pet if necessary.
  • Litter box, food dishes, scratching post and a toy.

What do foster parents do?

  • Provide food and shelter in your home.
  • Ensure basic care – grooming and socializing.
  • Give them LOTS OF TENDER LOVING CARE!!!
  • Once the pet is adoptable, make it available for adoption events
    (such as PetSmart Adopt-A-Thons).

How do I become a foster care provider?

  • Call 289-CATS (2287) and leave your name, number and identify that you are interested. A Volunteer Foster Sponsor will contact you directly to ensure a foster situation comfortable for all concerned.

What a reward - the love of the kittens whose lives you save.
