Newsletter INTERNATIONAL FOREST OF
FRIENDSHIP: Induction ceremonies for this
year’s Forest of Friendship will be held on June 30-33 2008 in Atchison,
Kansas. The theme this year is
“Security and solace through Flight - Military aviation and humanitarian flight
organizations.” j j j j
j WHAT WE ARE DOING Margaret
Coombs will be hosting our annual meeting at her new home. The date is June 1. Jan Sarbou, our secretary will be e-mailing
you with the details. Judy Stiles is again
spending her summer at her cottage in Penn Yan. Judy has been walking and walking and has lost 12 lbs. Way to go Judy! Martha Anne
Hull is finishing up her school year and will also be taking one or
two classes over the summer, AND will be going to Alaska with Sandy Brown to
attend their very first International Conference. Marcia
Gitelman won the AOPA 2007 Photo Contest with a photo taken Jan 2007. (She
didn’t hear until October 2007) There was a cash prize. She donated 10% back to the Air Safety
Foundation, some to the 99s Endowment Fund and took the pilots of the planes
involved to dinner with their guests. AND, Marcia and 49 1/2 Dave will also be
going to Alaska. . If anyone has done something
they would like the world to know, please email me and I will include in the
next newsletter. CHAIR CHATTER
I wish more
of you could have attended the Spring section meeting. We always have such a good time. (Just don’t
ask Jan or Judy about the young basketball team.) Remember last section meeting when Martha Anne and Jan Sarbou had
to buy on-the-spot bathing suits? Well,
I also now have an official section meeting bathing suit! Yup, I forgot mine. This could start a
tradition. Wait til you see the
picture. :( Our headquarters web site is
a wealth of information. There is a very interesting article under the heading
of History that tells about the formation of our organization. Another very interesting article is under
the Air Race heading. Boy, those ladies
had guts! The AE Birthplace Museum has
pictures of her birthplace. More
information on awards, web sites of other sections and chapters; if you haven’t
poked around, please consider doing so.
As I start my new duties as
Section Governor, I am wondering how I am going to measure up to Barbara Para-
school board, flight instructor, mentor, FAA employee. Wow! Well, I can only be me - but I will work
hard and try my best. Thank you to all
who voted for me. Barbara worked very hard for us. If you get a chance, please send her an email and thank her. I know she would appreciate it: bhpara@embarqmail.com. Sandy Brown j
