EVENT #1: TURNOUT RACE

This is a 3 person event. Teams will compete against each other to don complete turnout gear. Three members will begin behind a start line. At the signal the first person from each team will proceed to the donning area where full gear will be donned. Once completely dressed the member will proceed to the finish line. Once the first person has crossed the finish line the second person will proceed into the donning area, where full gear will be donned, cross finish line and third person begins. Once all members are across the finish line a judge will inspect each member for complete dress including all buckles, snaps, zippers and Velcro closures. This is a timed event with 5 minutes allotted. Any team exceeding the 5 minutes will received a 5 second penalty for each second over the 5 minutes. Also each donning infraction will result in a 5 second penalty.


Turn Out Race

EVENT # 2: KEISER SLED

This is a four person event. Teams will compete against each other to use a mallet to drive a weight along a predetermined track. This event requires full turnout gear. At the signal the first person will straddle the weight and drive it down the length of the track. Once the weight has cleared the predetermined line the first member will stop, exit the sled, hand the mallet to the second member who will straddle the weight and drive if back down the length of the track. This will be repeated until four persons have completed the task. The teams with the fastest time will win the event.


Keiser Sled

EVENT #3: BUCKET RELAY

This is a three person event. Teams will compete against each other to move the most amount of water within the allotted time. This is a relay event. This event requires full turnout gear. At the signal the first person will scoop a bucket of water from the drop tank, proceed to the second person, empty the bucket of water into the second person’s bucket. The second person will proceed to the third person and empty the water into the third person’s bucket. The third person will proceed to the “fire” and dump their water into the fire. The team with the most water in the “fire” wins the event. The time is 3 minutes.


Bucket Relay

EVENT # 4: WATER BALL

This is a three member event. Teams will compete against each other to move an object using a stream of water. This event requires full turnout gear. Each team will use the water from a hose line to move an object past a “goal line.” At the signal each team will open their hose line and direct a straight stream of water at the object trying to push it toe the opposing side. Streams MAY NOT be directed at the opposing team members. This is a timed event, the team with the most “goals” after 3 minutes wins the event. This will be bracketed depending on how many teams participate.


Water Ball

EVENT # 5: TUG-O-WAR

This is a five member event. Teams will compete against each other to pull the opposing team’s flag across a designated mark. This event requires the following PPE; boots, gloves and helmet. The anchor may wrap the rope around his/her body. All other members may only use hands without wrapping the rope. This will be bracketed depending on how many teams participate.

HILLSDALE COMMUNITY DAY MUSTER RULES

1. All teams must be pre-registered (forms mailed)

2. All teams will consisted of 6 to 10 active of junior members of your department who have current department physicals and are 16 years of age or older.

3. All turnout gear for the Turnout Race, Bucket Relay, Water Ball and Keiser Sled will be in good working order and consist of; helmet with face shield or goggles, hood, turnout coat, pants, suspenders, boots and gloves.

4. Tug O War participants will wear boots, gloves and helmet with face shield or goggles in addition to their street clothes. NO TURNOUT COATS, PANTS, OR HOODS.

5. All teams will be at the start area on time of forfeit.

6. All teams will follow the rules of each event or be disqualified.

7. Although there are rules to be followed please remember this is a fun event and also a family event, use your good judgment in your behavior and vocabulary; a little ”trash talking” is OK, but keep it PG.

8. All judges decisions are final.
