MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR PERSON

I would like to give a short information about what the centre is for and what I am doing and planning for the centre.

My name is Evarista Msaky. I come from Kilimanjaro; living in Arusha Region. I am not married, teacher by profession and a social worker.

I have been working with Mgolole Orphanage centre in Morogoro Region for 12 years.

BACKGROUND:

In 1996, I decided to take care of orphans and poor children. I intended to do so after the death of my sister together with her husband who died of a road accident and left five orphans. No body was ready or willing to look after them. So, the situation in which the children were pained me and knowing well that every child has a right to be brought up with love and education, I decided to start the centre.

Therefore, I left every plan that I had in order to help these children who had no help from their relatives and families.

FUNDING:

I asked for help from “Kloster Namen Jesu” one of the convents in Switzerland. They were ready to help me financially for a short period of time. From their help I managed to buy a piece of land at Njiro Area in Arusha where I built a centre for the children to live in. The house is not complete but the children are living in it since May 2001. Part of the fund received from the convent was used as school fees and buying the scholastic materials. I am doing a private coaching in Germany and Swahili languages in order to get funds for them.

PROGRAMS IN THE CENTRE:

A Nursery school was started for those young ones who are not able to join the primary section. This section helps the kids know how to write and read before sending them to the primary schools.

Right now the children live with me and they total to 15 who are school going age and indeed we live in a family situation as though we are brothers and sisters. As per now, they are all doing well at school even though the place in which we live is becoming smaller. Hence there is need for expansion of the house or building a new one.

There are two groups of children; the big ones in secondary school and the young ones in primary or nursery section. Seven are in boarding secondary school, five are in boarding primary school and the remaining are in primary and nursery school here with me at home. I expect more children this year.

This calls for all kinds of support from you or your organization towards the development of the centre and upbringing of the children can be channeled to the address above.

3- SHORT COMINGS:

I take this opportunity to present to you the main obstacles that are facing our nursery school and thereby affecting its continuity.

a) Lack of Land; where we can build classrooms for the increasing number of children because the place is already too small. We need to buy a bigger piece of land where we can build a big school for more children where they may get better basic needs. In this way we shall be able to help as many children as we can.

b) Lack of books and playing materials for small children: Due to small income, we are not able to buy enough materials like text books, exercise books, drawing materials, pencils and colors and above all we need teaching and learning aids so as to manage very well and facilitate easy learning. These items cost a lot of money and are expensive.

c) Transport: Many parents would like to bring their children here but they live far away from here. This means if we had transport we could pick these children in the morning from their homes and return them back after learning. This problem has led us to not having many children being brought by their parents. We are located far away from the town centre, and this makes it very expensive to transport food items and other things which help running the school. It is therefore our humble request that you help us to save the situation where possible.
