January 11, 2012

The regular stated meeting of Chenango Chapter No. 135, O.E.S was held in its rooms Wednesday, evening at 7:00pm with RWS Bonnie Cobb and WB Dennis Youngs presiding.    Chapter opened in short form.   The WM greeted 16 officers and members.

The WP presented the WM with a cozy wrap to snuggle with.

The WM presented RWS Bobbie with a gift from the chapter as Jr. Past Matron.

On Role Call of Officers, the following were reported absent, Assoc Patron, Chaplain, Color Bearer, Marshal, and 3 trustees.  Substitute officers were S Teresa and RWS Bobbie.

The WM welcomed all to the annual PJ Night.  She explained that she and WB Dennis held the first PJ night.    The WM introduced PJ night to show that it didnÕt matter what clothes we wear on the outside, we are all the same people inside.   RWS Bonnie had an experience when she was a new member of being chastised for wearing jeans to a meeting.  She explained that she had just come from the football field after watching her son play and she could either come to the meeting Òas isÓ and be there or go home.   She chose to attend the meeting.    Thus, the beginning of relaxing the dress code in the chapter room on regular meeting nights.

Minutes of the previous meeting were not read for information.

Under Sickness and Distress, the following was reported:    WS Pauline Bowen died December 29.    Chenango Chapter did an OES funeral service on Monday, December 2 at Chase Funeral Home.    The Necrology committee has been informed.   WS Pauline was the mother of RWS Jill Julian and the Aunt of RWS Vickie Smith.  S Ruth Moubray had eye surgery yesterday for the skin cancer she had under the eye.    WS Betty reports that MOM is doing very well.    A card was signed for S Ruth.    S Nan and her husband Bob have both been ill and S Nan is absent tonight.

Sister secretary spoke of the joy of treating her 3 granddaughters to lunch and spending the afternoon with them.    Then the next day having her grandson home on leave and spending the day with him.    The WM expressed the joy of having RWB Francis with us bringing wonderful music.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

S. Secretary thanked those who worked on the Eastern Light Lodge Annual meeting dinner.    Although the dinner was intended to be a ÒgiftÓ so to speak, the lodge brothers gave us all the money collected so we earned $97.00

RWS Shirley reported the secret pal names will be out next meeting

In WS BettyÕs absence, the WM spoke about the quilt which will be raffled by ÒBonnieÕs AngelsÓ

S. Linda is working on a evening of fun and music on either August 4 or 11 to be held at her pond   She will have more information as time goes on.

The WM presented a list of appeals that the chapter gets and discussion followed about  how we are going to fund them.  Some of the appeals in 2012 are:  BonnieÕs AngelsÓ, GMÕS special appeal for breast cancer,  Save our Home, cheer fund, chapter Christmas party, GM and GP combined projects, activities for the GMÕs visit to the district, district functions, journals, Christmas at the home, and there are a few others.     Possible ways of funding these worthwhile projects were discussed:  Bakeless Bake Sale, public breakfast on Easter Egg hunt day with the lodge, public dinners, theme basket raffles, 50/50 raffles, Sock Hop, host BC Stars, purple club dinners, etc.

The WM explained the ÒGrand chapter Disaster Fund.   This appeal had been tabled at previous meetings.    A motion was made by RWS Shirley, seconded by S. Teresa, that we send $200.00 to the Disaster fund.   The motion was carried.

The WM brought up the appeal for support of the Walk-A-Thon.    She feels that instead of the money coming out of the chapter treasurery should come in the form of sponsorships for those intending to walk.   She explained that she could ask her customers to sponsor her and S Connie said perhaps she could be sponsored by people she works with.    After some discussion, there was a motion made by S. Connie, seconded by S. Wanda and carried that those walking in the Walk-A-Thon would get sponsors.     S Connie will work up a ÒSponsor SheetÓ to be used by the walkers..

There was no new business
