February 23, 2011

The regular stated meeting of Chenango Chapter No. 135 O.E.S. was held in its rooms Wednesday evening at 7:00 o’clock with RW Roberta Brundege, WM and RW Lou DeMott, WP presiding in the East.     The chapter opened in short form and the WM greeted 16 officers and members.   Prior to the meeting several members met at 6:00 for pizza, salad, veges and dessert during which we had a brain storming session for celebrating our 100th birthday.

On Role Call of officers, the following were reported absent:  2 trustees, chaplain, Assist Marshal, points of Adah and Electa.

The minutes of the previous meeting were not read for information.

Petitions for membership by affiliation were presented by the following members of Windsor chapter who has turned in their Charter.     RW Larry Smith and RW Vickie Smith, RW Jill Julian and Sisters Rena Henderson and Pauline Bowen.       These petitions were read in chapter.     Since many of us in the room have set in closed chapter with these members and since some of them are past grand officers, S. Secretary made the motion that we vote on these petitions tonight and not appoint a investigation committee.    The motion was seconded by WS Carol Sue Rosenkrantz and we voted to accept these petitioners as members of Chenango Chapter.      The secretary will send a Notice of Election to these petitioners.

Under sickness, distress and joy the following was reported.     WS Marge sent a card to RW Pat Berg.  It was reported that Pat is at home and recovering slowly.     She misses Eastern Star meetings and would appreciate cards and phone calls.     It was reported that S. Lois Bittinger is now waiting an opening in a nursing home.     WS Marge will send a card to S. Lois.      The joy of the Secretary’s birthday was announced and Happy Birthday was sung.    It was noted that today is RWS Carol Lang’s birthday too.    Further joy was “Bob’s here” and RWB Francis struck up with “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”.    How great it is to have our musician with us tonight.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

BC Stars was meeting was held Sunday, February 20, at 1:30 at Round Hill chapter.     Attendees from our chapter were RWS Shirley and Bobbie, WS Marge and RW Tony and Marion Calisi.    The group voted to give a gift of $100.00 to the Grand Matron’s projects at the Grand Matron’s visit to B/C Dist..     It was voted not to subscribe to a coloring page for the Shrine Circus since many chapters are now doing this.       The Vice President of the group resigned and RWS Roberta Brundege was elected Vice President.

Prior to the meeting we discussed the 100th birthday celebration and some of the ideas are:  We will have a birthday party and invite the district.     We will especially include Otseningo Chapter and LaFayette Chapter.  At this meeting we could present some history of Chenango Chapter, including the minutes of the very first meeting in February 1897.     We will do a meeting using the ritual in 1897.    It was suggested that we “reenact” some of our past history.     We definitely want to have a “fun night or a fun outing”.     It was suggested that one night be dedicated to the music of past Matrons of Chenango chapter.      After discussion it was decided that if MW Grand Matron, Janet has an open date, we would like to have one formal meeting with the MW Grand Matron and Patron and their staff of officers.    Now we have to organize all of the above.

RWS Shirley handed out Secret Pal slips to those who chose to participate in this event.     The WM thanked RWS Shirley for heading up this event.

The WM has spoken to the MW Grand Matron and she will be glad to stop at RWS Julia’s home on March 20 to present her with her the 70 year certificate.     Other members of the chapter will also be present for this event.

The chapter will pay for 6 dinners for chapter members at the Grand Matron’s visit to B/C district.

There was a Field Day meeting after BC Stars last Sunday.     RW Tony reported that meetings will be held at Bonnie’s on one Saturday during March, April, May and June.      There will be a 50/50 raffle held for the benefit of the Oxford Vets Home and B/C District.    The inventory is being checked to see what we need for 2011 field day..    During a discussion about getting more people out for Field Day, the suggestion was made that we have fireworks.    There are several issues with this.   First, the cost and then having to have permission from the Village of Greene and the Lions Club.  Also there are several homes near the park.

The WM reported that Grand Chapter Session location has been moved from Utica to the Binghamton Regency (River Walk).     The hotel Utica was experiencing tax troubles, there was difficulty with shuttle service and the cost of the session would exceed the budget.

S. Secretary reported that the Purple Club Dinner is March 18.  they asked for Corned Beef and Cabbage.   A sign up sheet will be circulated at our next meeting for donations and workers.

COMMUICATIONS   An invitation was read from Zuleika Temple, Daughters of the Nile to attend an informational program about the Shrine Hospitals at 2:00 in the afternoon on March 13 at the Kalurah Shrine Center.    We have an invitation to the Grand Matron’s visit to Otsego Schoharie District on March 20.   See the secretary if you would like to attend.     We have a thank you letter from Jeff French for our $100.00 contribution to the memorial fund for MW Elizabeth Pounder.       The secretary has received from Grand Chapter the 2011 Roster and one set of the constitution changes.     Sets of the changes for the line officers constitutions will be ordered as well as full copies of the constitution for WS Carol Sue, the WP and RWS Marion, who want personal constitutions.

Our DDGM has sent the latest schedule for B/C District nights as follows:    April 16, Otseningo #14; May 4, Delaware #244; May 5, LaFayette # 340; May 11, Chenango #135; May 16, Trinity Star #367; and Tioughnioga/Maine at Maine on May 31.

BILLS OF THE EVENING: $180.00 for 6 dinners at the Grand Matron’s visit.

Honoring the Presidents of the United States of America, the WM read some very interesting facts

Honoring the legacies of the US presidents and the White House.  She also gave each member some Presidents Word Searches puzzles.

The Attendance Award was won by WS. Carol Sue, for the second time!

RW Francis is looking forward to starting his duties as Grand Musician.

The WP declined the opportunity to speak!

The WM thanked RW Francis for his wonderful music and he received a resounding applause a couple times during the evening, the first time being during the opening.    We sure stepped right out and had a wonderful time with our march in.

The WM reported that she has taken several pounds of food down to the Greene Food Pantry.    This food was welcomed and was quite a surprise.    S. Secretary reported that during the months of March and April the Greene Food Pantry participates in the Feinstein Challenge where the panty gets money from the challenge depending on how much is donated during the months of March and April.   We need to keep this in mind as we consider our personal donations.

The WM reported that the Chapter will be holding a Silent Auction on April 27 with WS Marge in charge.    Proceeds from the event will be donated to the “Make A Wish Foundation”.

Grand Honors were given to 4 past grand officers and 4 past matrons and patrons.     RW Tony declined coming to the east to receive honors as a present Patron.

The GOO of the order was $71.00 and will be the first of 2 collections to go to the Walk-A-Thon.   It appears that we will have the $200.00 in support of our WP and he will receive a free Walk-A-Thon shirt.
