Apple Fest Report 2011 APPLE FEST 2011 Groceries this year were purchased in August as the
cups/lids need to be special
ordered and I wanted to make sure that all of the supplies were
here. I was going to be out of town
(M&M trip to SD) until the Monday prior to Apple Fest. I ordered everything that I could
through Ginsberg so that everything was delivered to the restaurant. I had set up with my bread man to drop
off 4 rollers and 44 trays. (NOTE:
this bread man delivered the racks to the Church on Tuesday because he came to
Greene really late.) The day
before we were to leave town, it began to rain (9/7) and by the time it stopped
on 9/8 we were in the state of emergency and flooding was the worst in
history. Many issues were being
dealt because of the flood. The
biggest was the ballflats were contaminated and we
would not be able to use them for Apple Fest. The Lions Club was gracious enough to
lend a hand in letting us use their park. The way that the weeks fell, the Wednesday night
prior to Apple Fest wasnÕt a meeting night. We decided to have an apple peeling
party anyways along with pizza at the Methodist Church. Connie and I unloaded all the supplies
in the afternoon as it was threatening to rain (again). Apple peeling went well and we used 4
peelers as well as those cleaning the tops, bottoms and insides. There was plenty of room at the church
for the milk so we were ready for the morning except the margarine. Thursday 9/22 I got to the
Church before 6 and started the sauce.
By 7:30 there were 7 of us with 1 more to come at 8:30 and Joan coming
by 11 to wash dishes and help with clean up. The first small batch of 66 was out of
the oven by 8:10. By 12:30 we had
made 1054 (I think). The last batch
came out of the oven at 1:30. By
3:00 Connie and I were walking out the door everything was clean and the dumplings all wrapped. Friday 9/23 During the day Bob got the grills
cleaned up and loaded the tables, chairs, tent, LP tanks, Clam cooker, tools
and the likes. I left work at 1 to
help him unload at the Park then went to get the dumplings. By 3:30 Dennis, Frances and Connie were
there to help set up. It was
raining again we put the sides on and left everything inside the tent. It was quite different and a bit more
work. It rained hard in the night. Saturday 9/24 ItÕs misting out by not too cold. Bob, Connie, Dennis and Frances got
everything set up by 7:30 and I arrived by 8. We had the same workers most of the day:
Teresa handled the money, the men working the grills, Carol Lang, Bobbie,
Connie and Marion were Ōdishers and dippersÕ and I
did whatever needed to be done. We
didnÕt sell out and at the end gave away about 70 so that they didnÕt go to
waste. We had to get everything off
the field, so the same group (plus Mike) helped to load it up to take to the
house, then a return trip to get the bread racks to return to the
restaurant. Sunday 9/25 Bob spends the entire morning unloading,
cleaning, sorting and putting away.
