SWEET KIDS….

LOVE THROUGH THE EYES OF CHILDREN
A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year- olds,
"What does love mean?"
The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined.
See what you think:

Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."
Danny – age – 7

"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more.
My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss"
Emily – age – 8

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen,"
Bobby – age -7 (Wow!)

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,"
Nikka – age – 6

CHINESE PROVERB:
"When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others."

~ O.E.S. CAMPUS NEWS ~

Dear Members of the Order of the Eastern Star,

December is always a special time of the year, but this year it was very special at your Campus in Oriskany. During the week before Christmas, I received a letter in the mail; one which I will likely never forget, not necessarily because of the magnitude of the gift, but because of the meaning that went into it.

The letter reads as follows:

Dear Jeff,
The work you are doing at our OES Home is simply terrific, and is surely appreciated by all of the members. The presentation you gave at Grand Chapter was outstanding and it made a deep and lasting impression on me especially since I hope to become a resident of the home at some point in my life.

I know it will take a great deal of money to accomplish your goals of providing private rooms for all the residents, and I am sure the various Districts will give you full support.

I also want to help out and I am enclosing a check for $5,000 toward this outstanding goal. You can consider this a down payment, for I will be going to the Home when I feel I can no longer keep up my home… “Keep a light on for me.”

The donor wishes to remain anonymous; but for those of you who know this individual, an act of kindness like this would be of no surprise. You see, it’s not the amount of the gift that impressed me. It’s the point that we have not formally initiated a campaign which will be forthcoming to allow for all Chapters and Districts and even individuals to participate in the opportunity to invest in the improvement of another person’s quality of life. This member saw a need and acted upon that need; that is why she is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and profoundly understands the principle of “Charity”.

What a glorious example for all of us to follow, and as we approached the darkest day of the year, we not only saw the “Light of Him, whose Star we have Seen in the East” but the “light” of one of our own members who will illuminate our future and that of all whom we care for. And yes, to the person who sent the letter and all who are reading this, “We Will Keep the Light on for You”.

May God Bless You and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Fraternally,
Jeffrey S. French
Administrator and “Keeper of the Light”
