BONAC ON BOARD TO WELLNESS FOOTRACE

OMAC continues to co-sponsor the Bonac On Board To Wellness 5K Race/Walk. It was held Wednesday, May 23rd this year. The timing was basically instantaneous with JMS Racings chip timing system and official results can be web-accessed.

This year there were 822 people registered and 703 finished . In 2011 about 776 numbers were given out and 652 official participants finished.

Following the race there were refreshments, games and awards. To see the results link to http://www.pigmantri.com/jmsracing/jmsresults.html

Barbara Tracey was able to entice Ginny Reale to come up north from her retirement home to help once again with this race they started together. They receive wonderful support from school administration and the community. The entire school turned out to participate in addition to community members. It was a thrilling event!

Doug and Pat Mercer continue to be the number one underwriters for the event. Community service time is also donated by students of the East Hampton High School. The East Hampton Village police force provide superb support.

OMAC MEETINGS:

OMAC meets the second Wednesday of each month at 54 Old Stone Hwy or at Gubbins' New Balance store in East Hampton. We plan, follow-up and follow-through on our events and other activities.

In addition to our organizational matters these meetings are the time requests for underwriting of teams, individuals and sponsoring of events takes place. We also have an annual, post-season party for all members.

Please fill in the contact information below if you want notification of these meetings or any of our events. Let us know if you are interested in becoming a member.

 OUR MISSION:

Part of OMAC's mission is to promote and nurture active recreation. We have done more than hold, sponsor and underwrite group, school and individual athletes and ahtletic events. We have attempted to raise public awareness to the importance of sports and athletics in a healthy society.

We have helped with committee work on the East Hampton Town Comprehensive Plan. We are continuing to urge the Town to complete each phase of this plan and lending our resources where possible. We have attended Town meetings, sometimes in force, to urge the creation of public spaces for the various sports uses. The fields off Stephan Hands Path are just one result of the Town responding to such needs. The YMCA has become an official partner with us on swimming and track programs. We believe that we have made a positive difference.

OMAC's NINTH & EIGHTH ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER

OMAC's Ninth Annual Awards Dinner will be held on December 3rd, the first Monday of that month. Save the date. Particulars will be announced by the end of October.

OMAC's Award's Committee chose Master's Athlete SHARON MCCOBB as OMAC's 2011 Outstanding Athlete of the Year. Diane Weintraub and Amanda Moskowski, co-founders of the Hamptons Marathon & Half Marathon, were the Community Service Award winners for 2011. OMAC's Awards Dinner was held at the Beach House Restaurant on Monday, December 5th. East Hampton Town Ocean Rescue Squad & SpokesPeople collaborated with OMAC in holding the event.

MEMBER NEWS & CALENDAR OF EVENTS INFO

The OMAC co-sponsored Bonac On Board to Wellness 5K race offers OMACers the opportunity for real-time interaction with our future elite and fitness athletes. Join volunteers Tom Cohill, Mike Bahel, Kevin Barry, Howard Lebwith, Paul Fiondella, the Ryans, the O'Donnells, the Conners and many others for this truly uplifiting local event.

Congratulations to all who participate. Remember, we are alsways on the look-out for nominees for our annual athlete of the year and athletic community service awards. So let us know of deserving candidates. You can contact us through our email contact address.

The Great Bonac Footrace and Miss Amelia's Cottage Race are our premier events this year. We have combined forces with the East Hampton Middle School to offer a track work-out/training hour each Wednesday with a coach. Talks are continuing with the Town in hopes of combining forces to offer athletic events and training throughout East Hampton.

Miss Amelia's Cottage 2 miler saw several family members participate. Craig Brierley and his daughter Julia; Justin (overall winner, 10:52) & Dan Kulchinsky; Ricci & Liana Paradisio; Lenny, Evan & Olivia Boccia, to name a few. Erik Engstrom placed first in his age division with 11:37 and third overall in the men's category. James Consiglio, a winner in past Miss Amelia's Cottage 2 milers, placed 2nd overall and first in his age division with a time of 11:33. Sharon Mccobb, with a time of 13:26, was the overall woman's division winner.

We also held our first OMAC Fleet Foot 5K, co-sponsored with the East Hampton YMCA Rec Center, starting and finishing at Fresh Pond. The innaugural race coincided with a paddlers race on the bay making for a very festive experience.

The Pump 'N Run, with Body Tech as OMAC's co-sponsor, saw an upset as Neil Falkenham bested the field with 71 reps and finishing first in the race on the Atlantic Beach (to Indian Wells and back) with a time of 9:58. Caroline Cashin was second overall and first woman with an astounding 120 reps and the comparatively slow 13:22 race time. Rasa Tarakaite was first woman in the race with a time of 11:46. Mike Bahel, Eric Engstrom and Michael Bunce finished off the top 5 place winners.

Talk is afoot for an autumn event, but currently the Great Bonac Footraces are the last athletic event we are involved with in 2012. The first Monday in December (Dec. 3rd) will be our annual atletic and community service awards dinner. If you want to be included in updates and event emails, please send us your email address in the section at bottom of this webpage.
