GREAT BONAC FOOTRACES - 2016
39TH ANNUAL GREAT BONAC FOOTRACES - 39th Annual Great Bonac Footraces are this Labor Day, Monday, September 5th. These footraces are the perfect start to your Labor Day fun. They are the most beautiful races in Springs. You make your way over the slight incline of Fort Pond Blvd. via several short roads to Maidstone Park Road. There you come to the top of a small hill which overlooks the splendor of Gardiners Bay. You make your way quickly toward the sight of boats coming & going to Three Mile Harbor. The 5K participants head back to Fort Pond Blvd. The 10K runners make their way to the suprisingly challenging Clearwater Beach area of Springs. Small hills and inclines through verdant roads take you on a loop that brings you back to the Springs Firehouse for refreshments & awards. Each race starts and ends at Springs Firehouse, 179 Fort Pond Blvd., East Hampton, NY 11937. That's in the Springs area of East Hampton.
BONAC ON BOARD TO WELLNESS FOOTRACE
OMAC continues to co-sponsor the Bonac On Board To Wellness 5K Race/Walk. It was held Wednesday, May 25th this year. The timing was basically instantaneous with JMS Racings chip timing system and official results can be web-accessed.
Following the race there were refreshments, games and awards. To see the results link to http://www.pigmantri.com/jmsracing/jmsresults.html
Barbara Tracey continues to receive wonderful support from school administration and the community. The entire school turned out to participate in addition to community members. It was a thrilling event!
Community service time is also donated by students of the East Hampton High School. The East Hampton Village police force provide superb support.
OMAC meets the third Thursday of the even numbered months at 54 Old Stone Hwy. We plan, follow-up and follow-through on our events and other activities.
OMAC supports junior & older athletes. In addition to organizational matters these meetings are the time to share anecdotes & results of training or competitive events. Requests for underwriting of teams, individuals and sponsoring of events takes place during these meetings, too. If you want to help spread the word about your event or need volunteers, ask us. Then on the 1st Monday of December we give out athletic & community service awards at our annual, post-season holiday party for all members.
Please fill in the contact information below if you want notification of these meetings or any of our events. Let us know if you are interested in becoming a member.
Part of OMAC's mission is to promote and nurture active recreation. We have done more than hold, sponsor and underwrite group, school and individual athletes and ahtletic events. We have attempted to raise public awareness to the importance of sports and athletics in a healthy society.
We have helped with committee work on the East Hampton Town Comprehensive Plan. We are continuing to urge the Town to complete each phase of this plan and lending our resources where possible. We have attended Town meetings, sometimes in force, to urge the creation of public spaces for the various sports uses. The fields off Stephan Hands Path are just one result of the Town responding to such needs. The YMCA has become an official partner with us on swimming and track programs. We believe that we have made a positive difference.
OMAC's FOURTEENTH ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER

The Great Bonac Footrace is our premier event this year. We have combined forces with the East Hampton Middle School to offer a track work-out/training hour each Wednesday with a coach.
Past Athlete of the Year Award recipient Lori King fulfilled a personal dream & set a new record by swimming around the island nation of Bermuda. Although the second person to ever complete the swim, Lori is the first woman to do so. Her time was just under 21 hours whereas the man who was first to complete the swim did so over forty hours. Amazing feat, Lori! Talk is afoot for an autumn event, but currently the Great Bonac Footraces are the last athletic event we are involved with in 2016. The first Monday in December (Dec. 5th) will be our annual atletic and community service awards dinner. We will also be handing out a grant & award to one High School boy & girl. If you want to be included in updates and event emails, please send us your email address in the section at bottom of this webpage.
