2007 GREAT BONAC FOOTRACES - 30th ANNIVERSARY RACE DAY 2007: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD - LABOR DAY The 30TH GREAT BONAC FOOTRACES will be held on Monday, September 3, 2007. The event is being organized as the most exciting Great Bonac Footrace ever. It is a jewel among races coursing through some of the most beautiful natural scenery in Springs including Maidstone Park, Three Mile Harbor and Gardiners Bay. It is a great race in which to learn your true personal racing time. This is a legendary race in East Hampton. It started as a strictly a 10K benefiting the Springs Village Improvement Society. Ed Hults, Howard J. Lebwith and John F. Conner were the race's founders. Top Long Island runners including Joe Cordero, Mike Bottini, Barbara Gubbins, Mike Polansky, Estella & Bob Clasen, Maury Dean, Kevin Barry, Kenny Fromm, Steven Cuomo, Nicholas Harding, Diane O'Donnell and Ben Turnball are among those who have participated in this race. The pre-registration fee is $20 for adults and $10 for seniors and people 17 years old or younger. Day-of-race fees are $25 for adults and $15 for youngsters and those 65 or older. Special 30th Anniversary Race T-Shirts will be given to the first 250 registrants. Awards are given based on ten-year age groups as well as overall awards for the top finishers. Special prizes for age-group winners are a staple of this event. In 2006, backpacks filled with essentials were awarded in addition to baked goods. Day-of-race registration starts at 7:30 A.M. The 10K Run starts at 9:00 A.M. and the 5K Run/Walk takes off at 9:20 A.M. The races begin near the Springs Firehouse, each with its own starting line. All races finish at the Springs Firehouse. The 30TH GREAT BONAC FOOTRACES feature chip timing. Finishing times are available faster than ever before. All participants will wear an ankle bracelet with a timing chip attached. As you cross the finish line your time is automatically recorded and placed into a database. In addition, hard copies of the results will be posted on near the finish line. They will be updated at 15 minutes intervals. This anniversary year has an added, bonus feature. A printout with the name and date of the race together with an individual runner's/walker's name and time will be available for the first time. The 30TH GREAT BONAC FOOTRACES is a not-for-profit event. It is held jointly by the Springs Fire Department and Old Montauk Athletic Club (OMAC). Proceeds from this race benefit the fire department's scholarship fund and OMAC's athletic grants and sponsorships.
