There will be a Spring Picture day on Wednesday, March 26 during the school day. These photos are informal and all students will be photographed. Proofs will then be sent home and parent can choose order them or return them. Students may also bring props to be used during the photo shoot. Please make sure that any prop is appropriate for the school environment. All props are the responsibility of the student to bring to the photo shoot and then bring home.
PTA Membership drive is underway. The cost is $10 for a single membership, $15 for a double membership. Proceeds go back to help Your PTA bring such events as: The Circus, The Back to School Gathering, every Arts in Education Show, Field Day and much more. Your PTA needs your support to continue to bring these services into the school. You can download a membership form on the RJL PTA Website here.

BEAT THE WINTER BLUES with the RJL PTA's Annual Plant Sale
Spring is right around the corner (according to the calendar) and what better way to welcome it with thinking about your spring planting plans. RJ Lockhart’s Annual Plant Sale will be held May 8-9th. Our pre-order sale is taking place now. Our prices are on par with local garden centers, but our profits benefit the children of RJ Lockhart! Sample pictures of the plants can be found on the here . Please return your order form with payment in full by March 21st to the PTA mailbox.
This year RJ Lockhart PTA is offering 2013-2014 Class Shirts.
These shirts will be worn for Field Day!!!
Grades K (yellow), 1 (blue), 2 (red), 3 (purple) 4 (green) and 5 (orange) will need to purchase tye-dyed shirt or wear a solid shirt matching the grade’s class color. RJL Class Shirts 2013-2014 cost $8.00 each. The PTA is offering these shirts at cost – it is not a fundraiser. Parents are also welcome to purchase shirts.
The 6th grade will be wearing their “Class of 2014” shirts.
It is recommended that class parents purchase a shirt to be worn at Field Day
This is will be the ONLY Class shirt order for the school year.

Our school store will be open every Tuesday during lunch periods. The school store is open for all students in Grades 1-6. This is an easy way to replace your child’s school supplies, or just treat them to something fun! View the price list here.
Box Top$ for Education
Once again our school will participate in the Box Top$ for Education program. This program earns cash for our school.
Please clip the Box Top logos from participating products and send them to school with your child(ren) either an envelope or a zip lock bag. Please remember to have your child’s name and teacher’s name written on the bags or envelopes for your class to receive credit for them.
We will be running beginning a contest beginning now through January 8.
Our first contest winners are:
1st place with 1,049 box tops is Mrs. Cirella's class
2nd place with 1,038 box tops is Mrs. Kennedy's class
3rd place with 823 box tops is Mrs. Mondshein's class
Each class above will receive book fair vouchers for the book fair in January.
The Mission of the PTA
To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;

The Purpose of the PTA
To promote the welfare of the children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship.
To raise the standards of home life.
To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently the education of children and youth.
To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education.
About RJ Lockhart
The Raymond J. Lockhart School is an integral part of the community. Students are invited to discover, invent, experiment, and dream in our child-centered classrooms. Technology is infused throughout the curriculum and there is a strong emphasis on literacy and reading. New York State Standards are evident throughout the school. Our children also participate in a character education program that was carefully developed by our site-based team. Children participate in recycling efforts, feeding the hungry, and developing a core of respect for themselves, each other, and the environment.
In addition to our core curriculum, students receive specialized instruction in physical education, art, music, library, and technology. Extracurricular clubs for drama, music, journalism, and more are also offered. It is our goal to give our students a love of learning and the thirst for knowledge.
