DSCN6930_800x600[1].jpgWelcome to the Rye Association for the Handicapped

Our Mission The Rye Association for the Handicapped is an organization dedicated to adults with permanent physical disabilities. Our mission is to offer support and to enrich their quality of life.

Who We Are
In 1963 at the urging of Kate L. Loree, Mayor H. Clay Johnson of Rye formed the Mayor’s Committee for the Handicapped. Rye was the second city in New York State to appoint such a committee. In 1968 it became a non-profit corporation, The Rye Association for the Handicapped.

What We Do
Our members benefit from an excellent swim program that includes therapeutic and recreational swimming as well as an exercise session with a “Y” instructor. Year round, the Rye YMCA makes a pool available for 1 (one) hour on Monday and Friday mornings followed by a coffee and refreshment Social Hour. Other recreational activities we offer include: Picnic, Gala Christmas Holiday Party, Volunteer Luncheon, and Theatre Party.

How We Do It
Our main source of income is the Annual Fund Drive supplemented by donations and bequests from friends of the Association. Membership dues are maintained at a minimum so that no one would be prevented from becoming a member for financial reasons. The Rye Association for the Handicapped, Inc., receives no federal, state, county, local governmental or United Way funds. We rely on the continued generosity of our contributors. All of this is made possible by dedicated, unpaid Volunteers, which include the Directors of the Association and its Officers.

Where The Money Goes
• The Cost of operation, maintenance, and insurance for our Minibus • General Liability insurance • Recreational Activities • Refreshments • Contribution to the Rye YMCA
