school_clipart_books.gif Welcome to the South Country PTA Council and thank you for visiting our website

Dear South Country Families,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year at South Country School District! Starting a new school year is always an exciting time – new teachers, parents, and friends – a new beginning. It will be good to see all the returning families and I would like to welcome all of the new families that will join us this year.

South Country is a wonderful community – from the compassionate and talented faculty; the busy, but organized front offices; the dedicated janitorial crews; the patient lunchroom staff and most importantly, the involved and caring parents. The staff at South Country is responsible for making sure our children’s days are enriched and fulfilled, but it is the PTA’s responsibility to enhance student’s days by adding programs and events outside of the school curriculum. It is with the help of our PTA members that our children have been exposed to authors, illustrators, motivational speakers and many other fine arts programs.

The South Country community is not something that exists only during the hours of 7:00am and 3:30pm. We are all neighbors. The PTA tries to create a sense of community, not just for our children, but for parents as well. Our schools host events that bring families together as a whole, such as Halloween Family Fun Night at Verne W. Critz or Family Fun Night at Frank P. Long. These are nights for the South Country community to come together as a group and to have some fun. There are many of these family events scheduled throughout the upcoming year, please check your calendar for times and dates.

A school’s PTA is only as good as its members. We have some successful events here at South Country which have become tradition, but we are always looking for new ideas and welcome them. That is where you come in. PTA is a unique opportunity to allow parents to be involved in our children’s lives beyond our homes. Too soon they will want to spread out and figure things out on their own. Now is the time they want us to be a part of their lives. Let’s, together, make the most of that time. Please – join the PTA and help make this a great year. I look forward to seeing many of you and working with you towards a very rewarding year.

~Phyllis

Race To Nowhere at Bellport High School
“Please join the Bellport High School PTSA for a FREE Screening of the movie “Race to Nowhere”, a film by Vicki Abeles. Don’t miss this movie about “The Dark Side of America’s Achievement Culture”. This film will challenge all members of the community as a call to mobilize families, educators, and policy makers to challenge current assumptions on how to best prepare our youth to become healthy, bright, contributing and leading citizens.” Are you concerned about the pressures being placed on our students from a young age through high school? Do you understand what state requirements and assessments are and how your child is affected? Join us for the screening and conversation and learn more.
