How We Came To Be Called Terrific Tootsies Tootsie was the nickname given to my mother, Claire, by her mother. When I was thinking of a name for my Red Hat Chapter, my sister (now known as Lady Link) suggested we call ourselves the Tootsies. My mom had died the previous year and we thought it would be a fitting tribute to name the chapter after her. She was a pretty terrific woman and so we became the Terrific Tootsies! |

Welcome to the Terrific Tootsies web site!
In the early days of 2004, a few friends were sitting around talking about a group of women whom they had heard about on a recent trip to Fla. They saw these "ladies of a certain age" all decked out in purple and red having the time of their lives. One thing led to another and the Terrific Tootsies were born.
We presently have thirty two members and all we want to do is HAVE FUN!! We enjoy a wide variety of adventures and activities. We are up for any event and will find any excuse to have a party. One of our favorite things is shopping! Did you know that it is the Red Hat Society sport of choice?
We have a dinner gathering once a month as well as a monthly game night. Doo- Wop shows, dinner dances, theater, opera and pajama brunches are just a few of the activities we have attended. Our activities are as varied as the wonderful personalities of our members.
The Terrific Tootsies are a multi-talented group of women. There are dancers, artists and singers. Our Terrific Tootsie Troubadours entertain at Jones Beach every September for the Red Hat friendship march.
We are truly a sisterhood of caring women who have decided that play dates are still fun and dressing up is even better now than when we were little girls. After all, it's time to let the little girl go out to play after all these years!

The Red Hat Society is an organization of disorganization, a great big playgroup for women and a wonderful way to let the world know "we ain't done yet"! It was organized 10 years ago in California by Sue Ellen Cooper, heretofore known as "The Exalted Queen Mother". Women from all over the known universe have formed or joined Red Hat Chapters.
This universal appeal stems from what the Red Hat Society stands for.
- Playing dress up in our red hats, purple attire and lots of bling
-Taking care of and nurturing ourselves
-Having fun: we all love to play
-Meeting new friends
Since it is an organization of disorganization, there are no hard and fast rules. There are, howevewr, guidelines for members. Chief of these is the wearing of red on the head! Ladies under 50 wear pink hats.
The Red Hat Society holds National, regional and mini conventions where chapter members from all over convene for one purpose only...to have fun. For after all "Girls just wanna have fun!"
