Eagle Requirements from Life to Eagle Advisors: Mr. Dorfner and Mr. Kerr Life-to-Eagle Process Once a Troop 10 Scout obtains the Rank of Life Scout, he begins the "Trail to Eagle". This Web Page is designed to assist you in the advancement process. All forms for the rank of Eagle, as required by the Seneca Waterways Council, and the Seneca District can be found on this page. You are not expected to, nor is it advised to attempt to complete the Life to Eagle Scout journey alone. Troop 10 has several leaders that can assist you in this process. Troop 10 - Life to Eagle Scout Timeline & Checklist
Obtain a white, one inch, notebook with a clear sleeve on the front.
You will note 17 points outlining your responsibilities. These responsibilities are outlined below. Point 1: Maintain an active position of responsibility (leadership) for six months. Point 2: Maintain active participation in all troop activities. Point 3: Work towards completing 21 merit badges including 12 Eagle Scout Required Merit Badges. Point 4: Plan and discuss an Eagle Scout Project with the Eagle Scout Advisor. Once the Eagle Scout Advisor has given you approval to start writing your project, use the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook. Download it and save to your hard drive in Microsoft Word format. Point 5: Meet with the organization benefiting from your project. A project can benefit a school, place of worship, or non-profit service organization. For additional ideas, visit with a Troop 113 Eagle Scout about the project they completed. Be creative. If you have a particular project that has not previously been completed, feel free to discuss it with the Eagle Scout Advisor. Point 6: Once the Eagle Scout Advisor has given you approval to start writing your project, use only the workbook described in Point #4 above. P> Point 7: Obtain project signatures. When you have successfully completed the first half of your writeup, the Eagle Scout Advisor will sign the writeup, and advise you of other necessary signatures. Point 8: Presentation of your preliminary writeup. NOTE: There are several occasions during your pursuit of Eagle Scout where you will attend reviews, and will need to be in full Class "A" uniform, including merit badge sash, scout belt, socks, and nice dress shoes. Leave your OA sash at home. You should wear your Mic-O-Say and Order of the Arrow Coups. To make a good impression, make sure your uniform is ironed and looks nice. An incomplete Class "A" uniform may be cause for postponement of meetings necessary to obtain the rank of Eagle. Point 9: Completing the project. Once you have received preliminary approval at District Roundtable, you may begin and complete your project. Point 10: Three letters of reference. The link Seneca Waterways Council Eagle Scout Guide & Reference Letters provides instructions for the three letters of reference. You should secure your letters of reference once you start completing the second half of your writeup once you have finished your project (this is also a good time to start working on your Eagle Scout Application as described in Point #14 below). Have those people writing letters on your behalf send their completed forms to the Troop 113 Eagle Scout Advisor at the address listed above. Note: you will need to have all your letters sent to The Troop 113 Eagle Scout Advisor prior to your final visit to District Roundtable. (Our Scoutmaster may elect to deliver his letter the night of your Board of Review. Point 11: Complete the Project workbook. When you have completed your project, it is time to finish your writeups. The Eagle Scout Advisor can provide you with examples of other writeups so you can see the type of detail necessary in your document. Once you have completed your project, the Eagle Scout Advisor will instruct you on the steps necessary to complete the second half of your workbook. Point 12: Review Project with Eagle Scout Advisor. When you and the advisor are satisfied with your writeup, he will sign it. You will also need to obtain a signature from the organization benefiting from the project. The Eagle Scout Advisor will also sign your Scout Handbook indicating you have successfully completed an Eagle Scout Project. You should also complete the GOOD TURN FOR AMERICA FORM (MS Word) or GOOD TURN FOR AMERICA FORM (Adobe PDF). Point 13: Write a Statement of Life’s Ambitions. This is a document the Eagle Scout candidate will write, and is a requirement described in the Eagle Scout Application. Use this document to describe what you have accomplished in life, and what your plans are for the future. Remember to use references of your scouting career in this document. Print out your completed statement, and place in the inside pocket of your notebook. Point 14: Eagle Scout Rank Application and Other Forms. Complete this application at any time. You will need to turn in your Eagle Scout Application with all the necessary signatures during your final visit to District Roundtable. To assist you in filling out this form, the Advancement Chairman can create an Eagle Scout Application Assistance Form for your use. Please take advantage of this 'assistance'. Your Application MUST match what we have on file for you and what has been submitted to the National BSA office of advancement. There are a variety of old forms available which you can find surfing the net. The most current form, should indicate “512-728" "2010 Printing” in the bottom left hand corner of page 2. You will also note a bar code in the lower right hand corner. Do not use older versions of the Eagle Scout Application, as they will not be accepted. Copy of Eagle Scout application: Eagle Scout Rank Application You can either print this off and fill it in by hand, or you can fill it out online and then print it out. - Once the Eagle Scout Advisor, has signed off on your final project writeup, the Advancement Chairman will need to check and approve your Eagle Scout Rank Application and sign your Scout Handbook to confirm you have successfully completed your leadership position, merit badges, and the time passed since achieving your Life rank. Prior to presenting your Eagle Scout Rank Application to the Advancement Chairman, it will be necessary for you to print off a copy of your Individual Progress Report and your Individual History Report from the Troop 10 website. These reports confirm the information you have written on your Eagle Scout Application, and will need to be placed in the inside pocket of your Eagle Scout notebook for future reference at District Roundtable. Once the requirements are confirmed, the Advancement Chairman will give you a "Scout Spirit Card" indicating your attendance. This "Card" must be given to the Scoutmaster to schedule a Scoutmaster’s conference. Point 15: Scoutmaster Conference. To schedule a conference present your Scout Spirit Card (referenced in point #14) to the Scoutmaster. At the agreed date & time for the Scoutmaster Conference, present yourself in Full Class A Scout Uniform, with your Scout Handbook, approved Eagle Scout Application (referenced in point #14), approved Eagle Scout Project Book, and Spirit Card. Once successfully completed, the Scoutmaster will sign your Scout Handbook and Eagle Scout Application. You will then proceed to obtain the Committee Chair’s signature on your Eagle Scout Application. After obtaining these signatures, you are eligible to make your final visit to the District Roundtable to present your finished project. Check the Troop 10 calendar for scheduling and the location of the next District Roundtable.
Point 16: Submitting Project for Final Approval at Roundtable. At your final District Roundtable review, be prepared to turn in the following:
Point 17: Eagle Scout Board of Review.
Eagle Scout candidates will go before an Eagle Scout Board of Review. A Board of Review consists of a lead reviewer from the Trailhead District, and 3-4 adult leaders from Troop 113. Eagle Scout candidates should be prepared to discuss all information covered during previous visits to District Roundtable, and earlier Scoutmaster conferences.
