Our Mission
VWC PTA welcomes you and thanks you for visiting our website.
The purpose of our PTA is to assist educators in providing diverse, enriching activites for our students and their families. We attempt to accomplish this through volunteer coordination, fund raising and the organization of child and family-oriented activities. Be sure to check back frequently for up to date information on things happening in and around our school. Please send us any suggestions or questions you may have, and be sure to come out and join us at one of our PTA meetings!
Presidents Message (Click here for Spanish Version: Spanish Presidents Message)
Dear Verne Critz Families,
Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year at Verne W. Critz! Starting a new school year is always an exciting time – new teachers, friends and supplies – a new beginning. It will be good to see everyone again and I would like to welcome all of the new families that will join us this year.
I am excited to take on the role of PTA President this year. Thank you to our PTA Board for making this transition an easy one. We have been busy this summer planning some terrific events and hope to make this year another memorable one at VWC.
Verne W. Critz is a wonderful community – from the compassionate and talented faculty; the busy, but organized front office; the dedicated janitorial crew; the patient lunchroom staff and most importantly, the involved and caring parents. The staff at VWC is responsible for making sure our children’s days are enriched and fulfilled, but it is the PTA’s responsibility to enhance student’s days by adding programs and events outside of the school curriculum. It is with the help of our PTA members that our children have been exposed to authors, illustrators, motivational speakers and many other fine arts programs.
The Verne W. Critz community is not something that exists only during the hours of 9:20am and 3:20pm. We are all neighbors. The PTA tries to create a sense of community, not just for our children, but for parents as well. We try to have events that bring families together as a whole, such as Halloween Family Fun Nigh on October 24th. It is a night for the VWC community to come together as a group and to have some fun. There are many of these family events scheduled throughout the upcoming year, please check your calendar for times and dates.
A school’s PTA is only as good as its members. We have some successful events here at VWC which have become tradition, but we are always looking for new ideas and welcome them. That is where you come in. Elementary school is a unique opportunity to allow parents to be involved in our children’s lives beyond our homes. Too soon they will want to spread out and figure things out on their own. Now is the time they want us to be a part of their lives. Let’s, together, make the most of that time. Please – join the PTA and help make this a great year. Our meetings are typically held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7pm in the Library. Please check the calendar for the exact dates. The first PTA meeting will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, September 9th. I look forward to seeing many of you there and working with you towards a very rewarding year.
Sincerely,
Phyllis Virno

Are you interested in helping out?
We're always in need of volunteers to help out with our many events. If you're interested in helping out, come to one of the PTA meetings (see schedule above)to hear what is going on and how your help is needed, or drop us an email (at the bottom of this page) and we will contact you to answer any questions you may have.
YOU DECIDE how much or how little you would like to be involved. Meet some of the many parents who are working to make a difference!
Thank you!
We thank you for supporting our fundraising efforts as these do help to fund some of our "free" events such as Movie Night, Snuggle Up and Read, and Third grade Picnic.
Your support also enables PTA funds to go towards bonus books for every child during book fair, author visits, 3rd graders yearbooks, back to school classroom supplies, and other special perks the children get to enjoy throughout the year.
Your support is appreciated!

Ongoing Fundraisers

Box Tops Recycling
Our Box Tops program helps us turn "Trash into Cash"! Each Box Top is worth 10 cents to our school so the benefits add up quickly when lots of you get involved! We have many fun contests planned, so keep clipping those Box Tops and send them in with your children. Look for notes sent home with your child, posting the date of our next collection. Thank you for your support with this program!
Please see our website page at:
Box Tops Info.

Inkjet/Laser & Cell Phone Recycling
Don't throw away those empty inkjet, laser printer cartridges and used cell phones! Our Recycling Program allows us to convert your trash into programs, events and supplies at our school. Please wrap them in plastic and send them into school with your child or drop them off at the Main Office of VWC or at one of our local collection drop off sites (The Pizza Shoppe, Coldwell Banker, E. Patchogue).
Your support is greatly appreciated!
For more information and to see how your donations help, please see our recycling webpage at:
