*James Hollis Petro (1988)

James H. Petro was born 22 October 1915 in Columbus, Ohio and died 8 May 1993 in Chillicothe, Ohio. James and his wife, Kay, were the parents of two daughters, Jennie and Lynn. Jim was a retired Agronomist who joined the SAR in 1988. His patriot ancestor was John Coppage, a private in the Third Virginia Regiment. He also verified two other patriot ancestors. James was also a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Walnut Street United Methodist Church and the Kiwanis Club.


Myron Frazier Gearhart (1989-1990)

Myron and his wife, Sue, are the parents of Byron P. Myron is a graduate of Kingston High School and attended 4 years of Agricultural Classes. In 1939 Myron became an Eagle Scout. He entered the Navy in Mar 1942 and received an honorable discharge in Jan 1948. He continued to serve in the Navy Reserves from 1948 to Jan 1952, seeing active duty during the Korean conflict. In 1998, Myron received the SAR War Medal, with the two bars for the wars in which he served. Myron is a long time farmer and is still active in agriculture along with his wife and son. Myron is a member of the Circleville Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon and trustee, was a member of the Chillicothe - Ross County Public Library Board for 21 years and President for 4 years. He is also a 60 year member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, Kingston OH; 50 year member Scotish Rite Masonry, Columbus, OH, member Landmark COOP Board, member and Past President Ross County ASCS Committee, and Past President Ross County Farmer's Club. Myron joined the SAR in 1950 and was a member of the original Chillicothe Chapter. His patriot ancestor was Ulrick W. Lutz who served as a private in the Berks County, Pennsylvania Militia. He has also verified 3 other patriot ancestors.


*Charles Emerson Turvy (1991-1992)

Charles E. Turvy died 3 February 2008. He and his first wife, Cynthia Marie, were the parents of a son, Barry Emerson. Charles served in the US Army from April 1966 to December 1968. He was a sergeant in the 25th Infantry Division and served in Vietnam. He was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the VFW, the AMVETS and the DAV. He was considered 100% disabled from the military, by the Veterans Administration. Charles joined the SAR in 1988 and his patriot ancestor was John Peden who furnished supplies and provisions for Army use.


David Russell Medert (1993-1994)

David and his wife, Patricia Christina, are the parents of David V. and Melissa A. David served in the Army in the 82nd Airborne Division and was honorably discharged in June 1948. Dave received the SAR Veteran's Service Medal from the Chapter. He earned an associate degree from Ohio University and has attended Kent State University. David is a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Ohio Gun Collectors Association, Sons of Union Veterans, All Masonic Bodies, American Legion Post 62, and the Sill Civil War Roundtable. Dave has served as Past National Commander-in-Chief SUVCW and President of the Roundtable. David has been widely recognized for his efforts at both restoring and erecting monuments in Chillicothe to the various War efforts. His latest effort in 2004 was the organizing, planning, design, erection and dedication of suitable monuments for Ross County WWII participants. He was a member of the Ohio Highway Patrol and retired with the rank of Lieutenant. He also was the owner/operator of an orchard in Athens County. David is a descendant of Major General Edward Hand who served as an Adjutant General in the Continental Army, and David became an SAR member in 1977.


Michael Edward Geron, MD (1995-1997)

Michael E. Geron M.D. served as President of the Arthur St. Clair Chapter for three years from 1995-1997. He has served as chairman of the membership committee for many years through the present and maintains all the applications of members past and present. Mike has also been responsible for the annual Flag Certificate presentation for several years.

He joined the George Rogers Clark Chapter of the SAR in Springfield, Ohio on May 21, 1987. His father, Harry E. Geron, was Chapter President at that time. He entered that chapter based on the military service of Sylvanus Tuttle who served as a private in Captain Keen's company in the Morris County, New Jersey Militia. He continues to be a dual member of both chapters.

In 2009 Compatriot Geron became a Life Member of the National Society of the SAR. He was awarded the SAR Silver Good Citizenship Medal on June 16, 2004.

He was born in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Harry E. and Patricia F. Geron. After high school he attended the University of Dayton where he graduated with a B.S in Biology. He proceeded to the Creighton University School of Medicine and after graduation proceeded to the University of Iowa where he served a three year residency in family medicine. He came to Circleville, Ohio on July 15, 1976 and practiced family medicine for 33 years and retired from practice on June 25, 2009. He was first elected the Coroner of Pickaway County in November 1984 and has been re-elected many times through the present. He plans to retire from this position as of the end of 2012. He served as President of the Ohio State Coroner's Association in 1987 and continues to serve on it's Board of Directors.

Michael has served as Past President of the Pickaway County Medical Society and a Past President of the Berger Hospital Medical Staff. He served as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Ohio State University Hospital. He volunteered as Medical Director of Williamsport Emergency Medical Services for over 20 years. Dr. Geron served as the team physician for the Logan Elm football team for 17 years.

Michael was married for 28 years to the late Carol Ann (Schoch) Geron who died in March 1999. They have two daughters, Nichole Marie ( Geron ) Bisig and Kristen Michelle Geron. He married Barbara Elaine ( Corne) Geron in Sept. 2001 and they live in an 1840's brick federal style home in southern Pickaway county.


Robert Arthur Fetters (1998-1999(Jan.-June))

Robert and his late wife Bernice Marvene are the parents of Robert A. Jr. (Janet), Bambi (Mrs. Vincent Billock) and Brendy. Bob was born in Highland, Ohio and was Valedictorian of his Centralia (now Zane Trace) H.S. class in Ross County, Ohio. In 2003, he served as Master of Ceremonies for the All School, 1953, 50th Chillicothe-Ross County Class Reunion. He played trombone in the All Ohio Boys (State Fair) Band and was a four-year member of the marching band at Miami University (Ohio). Bob was a 1957 graduate of Miami University where he earned a BA in Chemistry, and of Ohio University where he earned an Executive MBA degree in 1979. Academically, at Miami, he served in the Student Senate and he was a member of Phi Eta Sigma (Freshman Scholastic Honorary), Gamma Theta Phi (Chemistry Honorary and founding President on the Miami University campus), Pi Mu Epsilon (Mathematics Honorary), Lambda Chi Alpha (a social fraternity), and Omicron Delta Kappa (a Leadership Honorary). He taught Physical Chemistry while in graduate school at Michigan State University, and later, Production Management at Ohio University Chillicothe. Most of his working career was spent with the Mead Corporation in Chillicothe, and he has continued for the past 14 years as a Consultant. Bob retired as Manager of Product Safety from the Mead Corporation in 1996, after 37 years of service. He is retired from active participation in the Paper Industry Management Association (pIMA), where he served as President of the Ohio Chapter, and is a like retiree of TAP PI (The Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry), in which he served as Education Chairman in the Miami Valley of Ohio for several years. Robert was granted over 20 US product and process patents in paper and paperboard production, and in packaging. Bob is a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and he served for several years on the Administrative Council, and as a member and Chair of the Finance Committee. He was a life long Scout and Scouter (BSA). He holds the Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver Awards, and the Woodbadge Beads, and was the Council Scoutmaster at the 1964 National Jamboree in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. He was a Vigil Honor member of the "Order of the Arrow." Bob has served as a Scoutmaster, Explorer Advisor and as District and Council Commissioner and Council V.P. and President. In 1976, Bob co-chaired the Union-Scioto School District successful levy campaign to "Save Our Schools." Bob's hobby is family history and genealogy, and as a volunteer, has developed and taught courses in genealogy. He has membership in numerous Genealogical and Historical Societies and is a member of the "First Families" of Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, and Adams, Clinton, Highland, Montgomery and Stark Counties in Ohio, Wayne County in Indiana, and Blair County in Pennsylvania. Bob is also a member of the "Descendants of George Washington's Valley Forge" (DVF), "Flagon and Trencher: Society of Descendants of Colonial Inn Keepers," and the "Baronial Order of Magna Charta." He has been a volunteer at the Ross County Historical Society and the Ross County Genealogical Society, and at the local Mormon Church (LDS) Family History Center. Bob became an SAR member in 1988 and his patriot ancestor was Lt. David Walker who served in the North Carolina Militia. Bob has also documented 40 other patriot ancestors.

William Anthony "Tony" Robinson (2001-2003)

Tony and his wife, Vickie Lynn, live in Circleville, Ohio. He is a graduate of Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana; attended Indiana State University, Indiana Vocational Technical College and is a graduate of the Ohio State Barber College. Tony has his own barbershop in downtown Circleville. Tony is a member of Village Chapel United Methodist Church, Circleville Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites, and Shriners of Ohio, Elks Lodge #77, Eagle Scout alumni and Ohio Genealogical Society, Ohio and Pickaway County Historical Society. He is an Eagle Scout, former Scout Master and District Advisor of the Simon Kenton District. He was a member of the Staff Parish committee at Village Chapel, is a Zoning Board member of Circleville Township, past President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce- Lafayette, Indiana and Past Senior Warden, Lafayette Masonic Lodge #123. In his spare time, Tony received a 5th degree black belt, works with the Kiroe's Kitchen crew in Prison Ministry, Lay Speaks at church Services. Tony became a member of the SAR in 1997. He is a descendant of Isaac Davisson, who served as a private in the Virginia Military as an Indian scout, and Ralph Robinson who served in the Pennsylvania Militia. In addition to numerous offices of the Arthur St. Clair chapter, he was instrumental in establishing the Camp Charlotte Chapter of the Society in Circleville, serving as the first President of the Chapter. He has been active in The Ohio Society, currently serving in the State Color Guard as Commander, and he served two terms as state Secretary, he was State 2nd and 1st Vice President between the years of 2007-2009, President of the Ohio Society Sons of the American Revolution 2009-2010. He is currently the Central District Chairman, Webmaster of the OHSSAR web page and National Eagle Scout web page and Trustee of the Ohio Society Sons of the American Revolution 2010-2011.


Robert Elroy Grim (2004-2005)

Robert E. Grim served as President of the Arthur St. Clair Chapter for two years during 2004 and 2005. At the beginning of his term in January, 2004 the chapter was meeting at the Sumburger Restaurant in Chillicothe, but in April, 2004 the chapter meetings were moved to the New York/New York Restaurant in Chillicothe. The meetings were still held at that location when his term ended in December, 2005 except the name of the restaurant changed to the Italian Garden in November, 2004.

He served as the chapter Eagle Scout Coordinator from 1997-2001. He served as the chapter secretary-treasurer for two years during 2001 and 2002. In 2003 he served as the chapter's 2nd vice president. Since ending his service as chapter president he has served as chairman of several different chapter committees.

He joined the Richard Montgomery Chapter Sons of the American Revolution on January 19, 1988 based on the military service of his 4th great grandfather Benjamin Wait who served as a Colonel in the Vermont militia during the American Revolution and after the war served as head of the Vermont militia with the rank of major general. He founded the town of Waitsfield, Vermont and is buried there. Compatriot Grim transferred his membership to the Arthur St. Clair Chapter in 1995.

In 2006 his 4th great grandfather Anthony Sims Davenport was added as a supplemental ancestor based on his enlistment in the fall of 1778 for 3 months military service as a corporal and sergeant in Capt. John Lyle's company, of Colonel George Scott's Virginia Regiment which went on an expedition against the Indians and helped build Fort McIntosh and Fort Laurens. (Fort Laurens is the only Revolutionary War fort in Ohio.) He served again in 1781 for 3 months as a sergeant in Captain James Eaton's Virginia Company and guarded prisoners at Winchester, Virginia. He is buried in Springbank cemetery in Ross County, Ohio.

In 2002 Compatriot Grim became a Life Member of the Ohio Society SAR and was elected Genealogist of the Ohio Society SAR on May 1, 2010. He served as Chairman of the Ohio Society SAR Grants & Partnerships Committee 2009-2010. He also served as Chairman of the Ohio Society SAR Veterans Affairs Committee in 1992 and as Southwest District Chairman in 1993.

He was awarded the SAR Silver Good Citizenship Medal on May 21, 2003. The chapter awarded him the SAR Meritorious Service Medal on November 21, 2007 and the Ohio Society SAR awarded him the SAR Meritorious Service Medal on May 1,2010. He received the Ohio Society SAR Bronze Color Guard Medal on November 21,2007.

Compatriot Grim served a four year enlistment in the United States Air Force and was assigned to the Strategic Air Command with a two year tour of duty in Morocco, North Africa during the beginning ofthe Vietnam War. He is a member of the American Legion Paul H. Hughey Post No. 25 in Washington Court House. In 2006 he was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame by Ohio Governor Bob Taft.

He was born in Madison Mills, Fayette County, Ohio and graduated from Bloomingburg High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland and a Master of Education degree from Xavier University. He retired in 2001 after 34 years as an educator at Miami Trace High School near Washington Court House. He served ten years as chairman of the social studies department and was President of the Miami Trace Education Association at the time of his retirement. He received the Washington Court House Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator Award in 1974; was named a Jennings Foundation Scholar in 1974; was one of 8 teachers in the State of Ohio selected in 1975 for a week long Legislative Process Study Program; was named American history teacher of the year in 1995 by the Washington Court House chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; received the Ashland Oil Company "Golden Apple Achiever Award" in 1995 and was named to Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1996 and 2000. (Nominations are made by students who select the single teacher in their lives who influenced them the most).

He has been a member of the Fayette County Retired Teachers Association since 2001 and is a Life Member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. He received their Community Service Award in 2002,2003,2004, and 2005.

Compatriot Grim served on the Fayette County Junior Achievement Board of Directors from 1975- 1987 and served as the Junior Achievement Center Manager in Washington Court House from 1977 - 1983.

Compatriot Grim has been active in numerous civic, Masonic, hereditary and patriotic organizations. He served as President of the Bloomingburg Board of Trustees of Public Affairs from 1968-1970; was elected to the village council in 1970 but resigned to fill a two year unexpired term as the village clerk-treasurer. He was elected to that post for a four year term in 1972. He has been a notary public since 1967 and was appointed to Ohio Selective Service Board No. 15 by President George H. W. Bush in 1990. He was serving as vice chairman of that board when he retired at the end of 2009 having served the maximum time permitted- twenty years. He was awarded the Selective Service Board Member service medal.

He served as the Governor General of the National Society Sons of Colonial New England from 2005-2007 and was elected Honorary Governor General in 2007.

He served as President of the Society of the War of 1812 in the State of Ohio from 1993 to 1996 and served as Registrar General of the General Society of the War of 1812 from 2002- 2008 at which time he was elected Registrar General Emeritus.

Compatriot Grim served as commander of Henry Casey Camp 92 Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War from 1992 - 1995. He was Commander of the Ohio Department Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1994-95. He was Commander of the Central Region Association of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1997-1998 and was the National Commander-in-Chief of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War from 2002-2003. He received the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star in 2006.

He has been a member of the board of directors of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Charitable Foundation since 2004.

Compatriot Grim served as commander of Company C, 20th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Sons of Veterans Reserve from 1993-1997. He was commander of the 3rd Military District Sons of Veterans Reserve from 1997-98 when he was selected the national deputy commander. He served in that post until 2007 when he was selected the national commander of the Sons of Veterans Reserve. He still serves in that position with the rank of Brigadier General. In 2001 he was awarded the Sons of Veterans Reserve Distinguished Service Medal.

Compatriot Grim has been a member of New Holland Lodge No. 392 Free and accepted Masons since 1977. He was elected Worshipful Master of that lodge in 1983 and again in 1984. He received the lodges Distinguished Service Award in 1985 and the lodge's Service to Community Award in 1991.

He served as District Deputy Grand Master for the 8th District of the Grand Lodge of Ohio from 1986-1989 and was the Grand Lodge Representative to the Philippine Islands in 1986-1987.

He has been a member of the Valley of Columbus Ancient and Accepted Scottish Ritesince 1979. He was knighted in the Royal Order of Scotland in 1991 in Washington D. C.

He has been active in York Rite Masonry since 1984. He served as Illustrious Master of Fayette Council No. 100 Royal and Select Masons in 1988, and received their Distinguished Service Award in 1997. He was elected to the Council of Anointed Kings and received the Order of the Silver Trowel in 1988. Since 2004 he has been a member of Chillicothe Council No 4 Royal and Select Masons.

He served as Excellent High Priest of Fayette Chapter No. 103 Royal Arch Masons in 1989 and was elected to the Holy Order of the High Priesthood. Since 2004 he has been a member of Hillsboro Chapter No. 40 Royal Arch Masons.

He served as Eminent Commander of Garfield Commandery No. 28 Knight Templars in 1990. He received their Meritorious Service Award in 1992. Since 2004 he has been a member of Highland Commandery No. 31 Knight Templars.

He served as High Priest of Tabernacle No.2 Apollo Dramatic Chapter of Ohio Royal Arch Masons 1997-1998. He has been a member of Shannon Council No. 28 Knight Masons of Ireland since 1993.

He was knighted in 1991 in Ohio Priory No. 18 Knights of the York Cross of Honour and served as President of the Clinton County KYCH club from 1998-2000.

He has been a member of the Harry E. Sark Council No. 186 Allied Masonic Degrees since 1996 and served as their Sovereign Master in 2002-2003. He was elected Knight of the Royal Order of the Red Branch of Eri in 2000.

Compatriot Grim served as treasurer of the Fayette County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society 1988-1990. He is a member of the First Families of Fayette County. He is a member of the Ross County Genealogical Society and a member of the Pioneer Families of Ross County. He is a member of the Scioto County Genealogical Society and a member of the Pioneer Families of Scioto County. He is also a member of the First Families of Ohio; the Settlers and Builders of Ohio and the Society of Civil War Families of Ohio. In 2005 he received the Ohio Genealogical Society Presidents Citation for his help in repairing a monument to Civil War Captain John Bell.

He is a member of several other organizations including the National Gavel Society, the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, the Lt. Jonathan Bressler Camp No. 1536 Sons of Confederate Veterans and in 1999 Kentucky Governor Paul E. Patton commissioned him a Kentucky Colonel in the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

He married Charlotte A. Morris on July 31, 1976. She retired from Miami Trace High School in 2003 after 30 years as a business education teacher and high school year book advisor. Their son Irven lives in Kings Mills, Ohio with his wife Carolin and their three children: Jason, Michael and Joshua.

Compatriot Grim and his wife have been active members of the Clinton County western square dance club since 1992 and have served as co-secretaries of the club for several years and write a monthly news letter for the club.


Curtis Elbert Fleisher (2006-2007)

Curtis and his wife, Janet Marie, are the parents of David Curtis. He received his AB Degree in education from Capital University and MA from Ohio State University, with work completed on his PhD. Curtis was a math teacher for 6 years, a High School Principal at 4 schools over 22 years, and a life member of the OEA. Curtis retired as a school administrator and is currently semi-retired from his insurance and investment business. He received the Martha Jennings Scholar (Education) award in 1975, the Melvin Jones Fellow Award (Lions) in 1990 and 3 International Lions' President Awards, and was listed in Whos Who Among Business Leaders of America in 1972. He was named a Kentucky Colonel in 1995, and was the campaign manager for Floyd Newberry, Jr. in his 1995 successful campaign for International Director of Lions Clubs. Curtis is a Mason, holding many degrees, offices and honors (such as Ohio Priory No. 18 Knights of the York Cross of Honor, the Sovereign Master Harry E. Sark Council No. 186 Allied Masonic Degrees and Hospiyaler of Fayette County for the York Rite Body), Good Hope Lions Club (District Governor of Lions International, 1989-1990), and a member of the American Legion. Since 1984 he has been a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Fayette County Retired Teachers (2 years as President and Treasurer for 4 years), and is a member of the Fayette County Genealogical Society. He is a life long Lutheran and active in his Church, the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Washington Court House, where he has been a Sunday School teacher, served on the church Council, and currently serves as assistant minister. Curtis had a 2 year enlistment in the US Army from 1954 to 1956, serving during the Korean War for 17 months as Administrative Assistant in a Company of the Instructions Office (Sp-4) of the Infantry School at Fort Benning GA. In 1998, Curtis received the Korean War, SAR Veteran's War Medal. Curtis became a member of the SAR in 1996 and is descended from Henry Fleisher, a 2nd Lieutenant in the 12th Virginia Regiment of Foot Soldiers.

Marvin Lewis Spradlin (2008)

Marvin and his wife, Susan Jane, are the parents of Jason Lewis and Jeremy Tyler. Marvin became a member of the SAR in 1997 and is a descendant of Henry Connelly, a Captain in a Horse Company of the North Carolina Militia.


Donald Lewis Martin (2009-2010)

Donald L. Martin is the son of Jack Martin and Della (Martin) Arnett. He is a native Ohioan, raised about 45 miles north of Dayton in Miami County. He is a 1982 graduate of Miami University with a BA in History. He also played midfield on the Miami Lacrosse Club. In 2001, he received a Master's of Education Degree from the University of Rio Grande.

Don served in the United States Air Force from April 1983 until Jan 1991, first as an aircrew member on the C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft and later in administration. He was stationed at Little Rock AFB in Jacksonville, Arkansas, and Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska.

He has been employed by the Waverly City School system since 1998, and teaches High School Social Studies and Science. He worked as a mentor for the University of Rio Grande's graduate program and occasionally teaches courses for the university. In 2008 he was selected as 1 of 100 teachers nation wide to complete a Study/Tour of South Korea. In a separate essay contest the same year, he was selected to complete a Study/Tour of Germany. In 2010, he was selected as one of 15 US teachers by the US Department of Education and the Fulbright Hays Commission to attend a month long teacher seminar in Brazil.

He joined SAR in 2006, served as Vice President in 2008, and was elected President for the 2009 and 2010. He has also served on the Programs and Education/Youth Committee. In March 2008, he was a national finalist in the Tom & Betty Lawrence American History Teacher Award having been selected as the representative from Ohio. He has been awarded the SAR Silver Good Citizenship Medal, the Boy Scouts of America Volunteer Award and the Military Service Medal.

Other organizations he's associated with are the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War where he has served as the Commander of Enderlin Camp #73 from 2006 to 2010. He also serves as the Department of Ohio Chaplin, Jr and Sr Vice Commander. He also has served as the National Guide and as National Patriotic Instructor in 2010 and 2011. He is also a member of the Ohio Society War of 1812, National Rifle Association, Pike County Fish and Game Club and worked as an Assistant Den Leader and Assistant Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America for 10 years.

Wife Sherry, a native of Los Angeles, and Don were married while both were active duty at Little Rock Air Force Base in 1984. Daughter Jennifer was also born there while son Dustin was born in Anchorage, Alaska. They have two grandchildren Allison and William.

Don's patriot ancestor was Private and pensioner Cassimore May who served in Captains Cuppinhhaver and Farry's Companies of the Pennsylvania Line. Private Henry Warner, who served as a Ranger & Militiaman with Bedford County, PA, is his supplemental ancestor.
