03/03/1975, James K. Everett leases his 1970 Plymouth Fury I to the Village for $1.00 to be used for one year as a police cruiser. On the same day, Marvin Hager leases his 1973 Plymouth Fury III to the Village for the same terms. 02/09/1976, Village Council decided to purchase a police cruiser and put police markings on it. The village purchased a 1970 Plymouth (model unknown)from Cairo Auto Sales for $440.00. The previous arrangement had been for the Police Chief and the one Patrolman/Sergeant to use their personal unmarked vehicles for patrol vehicles and be reimbursed for their use. Council also debated purchasing a police high-band radio. Some council members felt that the police did not need a radio because they were performing police duties in the corporation of Cairo only (side note- the fire dept. had already had radios for a number of years). Chief Marvin Hager stated that he would resign if a radio was not purchased. A radio was eventually purchased for the cruiser. I have been informed that the cruiser was purchased while Gene Williams was Chief (1970-1975) and Marvin Hager was Sgt., but the 2/09/76 date is what was shown in the council minutes. In those same minutes Marvin Hager is refered to as the Police Chief. 04/04/1978 A Police Mutual Aid agreement was signed with the Village of Columbus Grove (approximately 6 miles north on SR65). 01/30/1984 Chief Larry Curl's (hired as a Patrolman on 08/03/81) annual equipment inventory for the police department shows that the police department now had a high band radio, it also showed a Hammerland low band radio that was listed as not in use. It also stated that the emergency light on the cruiser was a Beacon Ray Flasher, also known as a "bubble gum machine" light because of its shape 03/--/1987 Chief Charles Jenkins SR's annual equipment inventory for the police department states that the police cruiser is a 1979 Chevrolet Impala VIN 1L69695310668. It is shown to be in "fair" condition. 01/--/1988 Mayor Joseph Warren issues general orders for the police department. These orders state that citations will be issued to anyone exceeding 30 MPH in a 25 MPH zone, 40 MPH in a 35 MPH zone (except Perrysburg St/SR65 where the shall issue speed is in excess of 45 MPH).
01/05/1990 Accident Report #1990-01 (taken by Sgt. Jerry Burden), in which an officer had backed the cruiser into a parked vehicle at Flips Drive Thru when a young male had thrown a beer can at the cruiser and ran, stated that the cruiser at the time was a maroon 1985 Ford LTD |
