Auditions So you wanna be in our improv troupe? Then come show up this Thursday and Friday, (Feb. 23 & 24) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.! We apologize for the late announcements, but we didn't want to give any of you time to learn your lines. It's improv, smackypants! So stay tuned to this site for more information, or join our yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PNR/ to get notices of auditions and other upcoming events. So you wanna come audition for our improv group? Our improv troupe just had it's fourth anniversary, and during those past four years, we've gained as many improvisers as we've lost. Their reasons for leaving were numerous, but their reasons for joining our group were the same: to have fun and grow as a team. That being said, we welcome all who share our love of comedy and improvisation. You don't have to have Second City training or been in a show at Cabaret Dada to join, and there's no reason you couldn't be picked over someone who HAS improv experience. More important than how well you can imitate a 60-year-old man with his pants on fire is whether you seem like a fun person to work with. So bring that casual attire up from the basement, snatch that hawaiian shirt from the jaws of the mutant mothballs, and come and show us (and the world) just how brave you can be! So you wanna do stand-up comedy during one of our shows? In conjunction with our Saturday Night Improv shows, we showcase amateur stand-up comedians. Because we are not the typical comedy club show, amateurs must audition or send a tape so we are sure they are "family friendly." Again, the first step is to see one of our shows, then contact us about opportunities. (NOTE:If you have never done stand-up comedy, but think you are funny, here's some unsolicited advice that you probably won't appreciate... take a comedy class first! We hate to disillusion you, but stand-up comedians don't just stand-up in front of a microphone and ramble about whatever comes into their minds at the moment. Their routines are written, edited, rehearsed, edited some more, memorized, edited again, and then rehearsed. It takes years of doing amateur gigs before anyone pays you to be funny. Really. If you're interested in an excellent class that will teach you everything you ever needed to know about doing stand-up, see Mike Veneman's Comedy 101 link on the left of this page.) Anyway, if you have ventured into the world of stand-up, here are our ridiculously rigid guidelines. - We have a family audience (ages 13 to 70+). Keep your subjects and language appropriate (think Disney). Presenting inappropriate materials will ban you from future performances and we'll write your name on the bathroom walls of the Quirk Center. - We perform in a traditional stage/theatre setting. You need good stage presence and a strong stage voice (we perform without microphones.) - Amateurs must audition or send a videotape with 5 minutes of material. Performances are a minimum of 3 minutes, a maximum of 15. - Send or bring us a photo (8x10, Polaroid, bad stick-figure sketch... doesn't matter just so we have a vague idea of what you look like so when we are looking through audition materials we have some idea if you were "the funny one.") - Provide a resume or bio, and if you don't have one, we have forms you can fill out. - Dress for audition as you would for a performance.
