Celedonio Garcia-Pozuelo Ramos

Sir William Ramsay (1852 - 1916)

Sir William Ramsay established the scientific discipline of Isotopic Chemistry and is co-discover of the rare inert gaseous element argon and other inert gases. In 1898 he found neon krypton and xenon. Contriving ways to remove oxygen and nitrogen from the air, he found argon. His discovery of terrestrial helium on the earth led him to study radioacative decay processes, and he was the first to demonstrate an actual transmutation of elements (radium into helium) by these procresses, which later led to isotopic chemistry.

Ramsay received the Nobel prize in 1904 after successfully demonstrating the radioactive decay of one element into another. He later discovered Radon, and showing it to be the last in the series of rare gases.
