From Susan Brouillette:

Greetings to all, Now that you have had time to recover from All Hallows Eve (by the way we had close to 600 on 10/17 and over 900 on 10/24- way to go everyone!) it is time to plan for our Dickens of a Christmas events. The dates for Dickens of a Christmas are Fridays and Saturdays, December 11, 12, 18 & 19 from 6-9 pm and Sunday, Dec 20 noon-5 pm. The training sessions are scheduled for Saturday November 28 at 9 am and Tuesday, Dec 1 at 6 pm. Both will be held in the Ohio Village and you need attend only one session. Please let me know which session you plan on attending. I will be sending the training manual via email once I know which sessions you will attend.

For those of you who have not worked for our Dickens events - here is some background: Charles Dickens was the most popular novelist of his time - even in America. He was very much the "common mans" storyteller. He traveled to the United States in the early 1840s, including visiting several towns in Ohio. For the past several years we have used Dickens stories as a base for our holiday programs. We do not turn the village into a "Dickens village" (no English accents, please), but use aspects out of his stories in our programs. During the Dickens of a Christmas we cover Victorian holiday traditions (Christmas tree, wassail, gift giving, etc), decorations and ornaments, foods, music, theater - we have an outside group, Faire Wynds Entertainment, perform interactive Mummers Plays, we have an English actor who portrays Charles Dickens, a Christmas Carol puppet show, and of course, the Ohio Village Singers caroling throughout the village and holding short concerts. Your roles will be to draw our visitors into the activities - helping with the cooking, encouraging them to play parlor games, help them create period crafts, interpret the Victorian traditions, etc. You will receive more details in the training packet, but it is a fun, educational and entertaining event that I hope you will help out with.
