The Flood 2 ![]()
The Preflood world was different from today's world in many ways. The Bible(Gen.1:9) and geology tend to support the idea of a single large land mass or continent which broke up at the time of the flood. The concept of "continental Drift" or plate tectonics was anticipated by biblical creationists as early as F. placet in 1668 who based on scripture suggested the continents were at one time joined together. Physical evidence based on the close match of the coastlines and geologic formations show that the present continential arrangement is a recent one. However from the paleomagnetic field frozen in rocks and the location of ridges it seems that Antarctica has been located near the south pole the whole time with most continental movement being northward and to the east and west. The magnetic field also has the effect of funneling ions into the upper atmosphere in the polar regions this means that such Ions would be available to form condensation nuclei ![]() The Earth acts as a giant magnet Based on fossil evidence the world was much more productive and lush in the past many have assumed a universally tropical climate but there is little justification for this claim. The Bible offers a picture of a very different hydrologic system where rain was not the main way the earth surface was watered see(gen.2:5-6) and Gen.(9:13). Rather it seems water was supply by springs and maybe dew however such a system would require a means of rechargeing the aquifers with fresh water. Assuming the earth's axis has not changed by much , a portion of the Earth must have experenced long winters without sun. Therefore I suggest that during those long winters there was heavy snow fall in the south polar region which accumulated enough for melt water to resupply the the water to the ground water reserves. this melt water flowed northward along crustal fractures (future rifts) The north pole was cover by water and remained ice free The greenhouse effect mainly due to CO2(methane and water) in the atmosphere was very strong early in the preflood era but as undecayed wood other organic debris and coral growth sequestered the carbon out of the air the effect grew less therefore the climatic extremes began to be larger toward the end of the preflood era. an ice sheet grew in Antartica and seas retreated from the shallow inland seas and waterways which covered a larger part of the Earth. Thus the stage became set for the flood with the formation of a large biogenic reserve. later to become coal, oil, and limestone. But you say what about dinosaurs and corals in the Antarctic? it is true such has been found however we are talking about the flood and the fossils found were most likely transported there few land fossils are found actually where the creature lived since often below those fossil are rocks of the seafloor.Secondly some fossils maybe from the early preflood period as the ice sheet spread northward and sealevel fell. The presence of a large ice sheet in the southpolar region explains the evidence for Glacial activity seen in the permian fossil record. These glacial grooves and tillites may have formed as water driven iceberg fragments were pushed northward. the large amount of sea ice would also act as a heat sink and a source of fresh water in the area around the melting ice masses thereby providing a refuge for fresh water species in the flood of salt water seas.At the begining of the flood the breakup of the ice cap by by the rising flood water triggered isostatic rebound of the rocks below the ice cap producing a tectonic wave tending to drive the fragmented ice outward from the center. |
