One frequently asked question asked by sceptics is where did the water come from for the flood. and where did it go at the end of the flood, the short answer is it came from the ocean basins and it returned to the ocean basins but how? I think evidence of this is found in the system of rifts and ridges on the ocean floor. the flood can be divided into several phases

  1. a transgressive phase- rifting and eruption of new sea floor, as it progressed the newly erupted plastic semi fluid sea floor piles up elevating sealevel by thousands of feet,This may have started(see Asteroid impact page) with asteroid fragment impacts which continued for some time during the flood. The Earth's magnetic field also became unstable and reversed back and forth
  2. rapid drift and separation of continents formation of mountain belt geosynclines, runaway subduction
  3. regressive phase- seafloor subduction ceases as plates bottom out in mantle, ocean deeps form, mountains are uplifted and folded, cooling crust increases internal pressure and mantle become nearly solid again, water returns from the land to the sea.
