Mission of Delta Kappa Gamma The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
 
Founding of the Society
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society was founded in Austin, Texas on May 11, 1929. The founders of the Society were:

Dr. Annie Webb Blanton
Miss Mamie Sue Bastian
Miss Ruby Cole
Miss Mable Grizzard
Dr. Anna Hiss
Miss Ray King
Miss Sue King
Dr. Helen Koch
Mrs. Ruby Terrill
Dr. Cora M. Martin
Mrs. Lalla M. Odom
Miss Lela Lee Williams
(All twelve founding members are deceased.)

The founders believed that there was need of an organization in which women educators might be united for efforts toward better professional preparation, recognition of women’s work in the teaching profession, and scholarships for those needing aid in improving their professional preparation.

The Gamma Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma was founded on November 4, 1961. There were 26 Charter Members.

 Purposes of
Delta Kappa Gamma

To UNITE women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship

To HONOR women who have given or who evidence a potential for distinctive service in any field of education

To ADVANCE the professional interest and position of women in education

To INITIATE, ENDORSE, AND SUPPORT desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in the interests of education and of women educators

To ENDOW scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to women educators from other countries

To STIMULATE the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their participation in appropriate programs of action

To INFORM the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues so they may participate effectively in a world society.
