Our group actually came to be when my dear friend Sylvia Langerman was expecting visitors from England. Sylvias sister Margaret Dawson and a dear friend Gladys Vendy were coming to America for a short stay. Sylvia had told me of several of the traditional things the British people do to make visitors welcome and one detail that stuck with me the most the giving of a welcome basket filled with things they liked and things from our country, America. I kept thinking, I wanted to give them something to make them feel welcome and I wanted it to really be something they would treasure but not be too expensive for me. The thought hit me, what was more American then the " Red Hat Society," A gathering of ladies of many cultures, many professions and from all levels in society. This group that represents us ladies over the age of FIFTY who have found a common ground, LIFE is not over just because you are getting older. I read up on the Society and decided to induct them into theRED HAT SOCIETY and that would be my gift. I would give them purple scarves and a red hat pin and make them official members of the RHS. When we met for the first time at Hartville Kitchen to have a social dinner and become aquainted with each other, I gave them my gift and was very proud that they were going home a part of the American movement. Red Hat Ladies, out to just enjoy life and what it has to offer us as we KEEP ON STRUTTING through the red and purple years of our lives. I am happy to say that when Margaret and Gladys left for their homeland of England, they were both sporting lovely Red Hats purchased in Boston, their departure point. I am proud to say, they remain members of our group as our Rambling Rubies.
Our group has been established since February 20, 2004.
