Sophisticated ladies. Speakeasies. Busby Berkeley musicals. The 1920s was a time when America's preoccupation with opulence, luxury and sensuality matched its limitless spirit of optimism and individual expression. Sound like a certain exuberant flower you know?

Orchid Mania: This Side of Paradise celebrates those independent spirits of the floral world, orchids, in a setting befitting of Jay Gatsby himself. Hundreds of bold, fragrant, blooming orchids will be on display throughout the Garden and in the naturalistic setting of the Garden's Costa Rica Glasshouse. It's an occasion for flappers, Phalaenopsis and every other kind of orchid you can imagine.

Cross Country Skiing in Northeast Ohio

In many ways, the rolling terrain of Northeast Ohio is better suited to Nordic skiing than to downhill. Cross country skiing doesn't require hills and can be enjoyed on almost any snow-covered location. It's also easy to learn and offers an entire body aerobic workout.

Many local parks embrace the sport and offer designated and groomed Nordic ski trails. Cleveland Metro Parks has a list of cross country skiing venues.

Winter Festivals in Northeast Ohio

The weather may be blustery, but that doesn't mean that there's nothing to do in and around Cleveland during January, February, and March. There are big events, such as Mardi Gras and St. Patrick's Day, as well as smaller celebrations, such as the Medina Ice Festival or Hinckley's Buzzard Sunday...and many more. Polar Bear Days at the Zoo

Use January's cold to warm your pockets with savings during Polar Bear Days at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Whenever the high temperature for the day is 32 degrees or below, it will be declared a Polar Bear Day at the Zoo. That means Zoo visitors receive half-price admission on that day: $4.00 for adults and $2.50 for kids ages 2-11. Kids under 2 and Zoo members are always free. To confirm a Polar Bear Day at the Zoo, visit the Zoo's home page, call  (216) 661-6500  or listen to 107.3 The Wave from 6 to 10 a.m. daily. We'll also be announcing Polar Bear Days on the Zoo's Facebook page and Twitter

Winter visitors will find plenty to see and do at the Zoo. In Northern Trek, polar bears, along with other winter-loving animals including wolves, tigers, and deer, are at their most active at this time of year. For those who prefer warm and cozy, visit The RainForest where it's always a balmy 80 degrees. The RainForest features more than 600 exotic animals, including anteaters, porcupines and orangutans, as well as 10,000 tropical plants native to the jungles of Africa, Asia and the Americas.

The Zoo provides complimentary heated transportation to shuttle visitors. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
