A ROSE IS STILL A ROSE

Welcome to our web page

Our organization was established in 1935. We are committed to helping those in the community that are less fortunate. Our Motto "People helping people"

We have some very exciting things coming for the year of 2006.

PLEASE check our Calendar for future events.

We are going into 2006 with lots of plans.

We will be having elections this year " Jennifer" will be leaving office.

We will begin accepting application in August of this year for new membership. Any one interested in a application See Michelle (membership chairperson).

Ladies Helping Hand Social Club History

The Ladies Helping Hand Social Club which started October of 1935, At the home of Jessie Clark, 234 Able Street, Akron Ohio. Six ladies organized a club, not knowing that "70" years later it would still be in existence, and well Know through out the community.

The purpose of the club at the time it was organized was to aid and assist one another. At times, money was donated to the sick members to help pay overdue bills. With everyone just getting over the great depression. The Club served as a social gathering for the ladies. Only wives of the men's helping hand social club were allower to be a member.

With the ladies club being organized under the men's club, the ladies helped the men in every effort they strived to complete. Thanksgiving and christmas baskets were givin to those in need, christmas parties were given for the younger children every year, along with bags of apples, oranges and candy. Frequently the club held social gatherings which involve special activities and interest for both the men and ladies club.

Over the years the club expanded its membership to other ladies who where not wives of a member of the men's club, also changing the objective to promote the economical, social, educational and spiritual welfare of the members. New committees, such as: Bereavement, Benevolent, Educational, and inter-group were eatablished.

The education of young adults holds a high interest in our club. Over the years we have helped young adults in high school, colleges, and exchange students.

The club's activities have expanded to include picnics, hat and fashion show, mother and fathers day dinners, salad suppers, cabarets, bid-a-date and trips. Some of the club trips have taken us to some parts of the world such as Canada, St Thomas, Nassau, and Bahamas.

Accomplishing our goals and objectives has been a rewarding experience for all of us. To date, we have a life time and golden heritage membership with the N.A.A.C.P.. We make donations to the united fund, Salvation Army and united Negro College Fund. In 1995, we received a proclaimationform the Akron city council, Proclaiming that the month of October be" The Ladies Helping Hand Social Club Month".

WE COULD NOT HAVE ACCOMPLISHED OUR GOALS WITHOUT GOD, GOOD LEADERSHIP, DEDICATIED MEMBERS AND YOUR SUPPORT.

THANK YOU.

WE WILL BE CELEBRATING OUR "71" BIRTHYEAR IN 2006 WATCH OUR CALENDER FOR EXCITING THINGS TO HAPPEN.

WOO, ON JULY 8TH WE GAVE A MALE REVIEW WITH MR SILK PRODUCTIONS, IF YOU WERE THERE YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN AND IF YOU WERE NOT THERE YOU MISSED ONE HELL OF A SHOW. BUT WHAT GOES ON AT THE SHOW STAYS AT THE SHOW. ( KNOW WHAT I MEAN)

PURPOSE  Purpose: To promote the economical, social, educational and spiritual welfare of the members and community. Motto: People Helping people

WE ARE NOT WHAT WE'RE GONNA BE, WE ARE NOT WHAT WE SHOULD BE, BUT THANK GOD, WE ARE NOT WHAT WE USED TO BE.
