We are not Scout Leaders for the easy hours, high pay, parent's gratitude, power, or prestige.
We are leaders because we want the world for your son and ours. we want it to be a world he can help shape; a world of love and laughter, where he can show compassion.
We want him to be able to look at the stars, a sunrise, a sunset - the work and the world of God and man - and feel the beauty inside himself.
We want to help him to finish anything he starts and do it well. We want to guide him to know his worth, a deeper understanding of himself.
We want all Scouts to be the best they can be.
We want to help shape men who have strength of character and are sensitive to the needs of others.
We're giving of ourselves and our time. For this, we reap rewards far beyond what we give. we receive, for our children and future generations, a better world.
We are Scout Leaders because we care. Taken from Pack 114's Library
~~~ March 8th, Mark ~~~ March 12th, Greg ~~~ March 20th, Bill ~~~ March 23rd, Anna ~~~ April 20th, David ~~~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY! The awards ceremony was somewhat bittersweet. To see the boys acheive their higher rank was great, but knowing that some of the boys will be moving on from our pack was a little sad. We wish the Webelos who have crossed over to Boy scouts and the boys who have chosen not to continue with Scouts, an exciting, wonderful adventure on whichever path they have chosen. Steven & Chase for earning their Bear rank Jon, Eric, Tristen & Greg. We will miss you guys! This years Pinewood Derby was held at the Fairfield Beach Club House. The place was packed! We started the day off by having a potluck dinner, all of the food was great. The boys got to spend a litle time goofing off and having a good time. The derby started without any major delays. Thankfully Mark was able to do a little last minute welding for us. The boys had a great time racing their cars and showed great sportsmanship. All of the boys received special certificates and participation ribbons. There were medals given to the Overall first, second, third and fan favorite winners. In each den there were first, second, third & fan favorite ribbons given. In the open class there were "bragging right" certificates given for 1st place race winner & fan favorite. Regardless of the awards I think a fun time was had by all, and that makes everyone a winner. ![]() Proud Derby Winners ![]() Checking The Finish Line ![]() Open Class
This year the Veterans Day assembly was held at the High School. The students at Millersport were given red, white & blue pieces of construction paper to write names of soldiers they knew. They were made into a chain. The Cub Scouts were given the honor of carrying in the chain and laying it around the Veterans. The boys did an awesome job! When the assembly was over the boys were able to hang around and talk to the Veterans for awhile. PACK THANKSGIVING! Some of the things our pack is thankful for. The boys participated from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Some boys stayed the entire day while others participated in-between sporting events and family plans. We had a total of nine scouts attend. Congratulations to the pack! On a per boy average our pack sold the most popcorn in the district! Our pack has won a Garmin Gps locator. WAY TO GO! Congratulations go to Nick for single-handedly selling the second highest amount of popcorn out of the entire district! Nick has won a bow and arrow set. Keep selling guys, there are more prizes to be won! A big THANK YOU goes out to all the adults, they boys are awesome but they couldn't have done it without you! On Saturday Nick, Jon, Tristen, Kile, Eric & Steven met at the firehouse to paint fire hydrants. They did an excellent job! They were able to paint quite a few hydrants in the four and a half hours they were out. You can certainly tell which hydrants were painted. When they were finished they returned to the firehouse to a baked steak dinner, with awesome desserts. They boys did a great thing for the community and for the firefighters who risk their lives for ours. The Cub Scouts were asked to conduct the flag raising ceremony at the homecoming football game. The boys looked nice in their class A uniforms. They conducted the ceremony with pride and respect. The boys did such an awesome job that the Athletic Director has contacted Mark and asked us to conduct the Flag Ceremony at the last home game! He has also asked the scouts for their help in cleaning up the football field after the remaining two home games. We will meet at 8:00 at the field on the 11th and 18th. Remember boys, helping others is what scouting is all about!
KOA FAMILY CAMP In June we had our first family camp out. We went to the KOA on Friday and set up camp. The boys had a good time exploring, catching toads and dodging mosquitos! The boys helped prepare dinner and our own "camp Chef" prepared us a special treat. The boys didn't have much luck on their snipe hunt but we can't wait for them to try it again. Saturday morning the boys woke up to Mark cooking breakfast for all of us. We cleaned up and the games began. Water games! Watch out Chris, seems if there is water involved you are the target. The boys had fun swimming, playing games and just being scouts. We had to seek shelter from a storm for a couple of hours, the boys learned a special ancient go away rain dance from Christy. Luckily for us while we were at the big red barn, Dave and Dave were holding down the tents. Literally as they put it. The storms cleared and we were able to finish the night with nice weather. We had a little raccoon visitor, but fortunatly for him Dave didn't need his spatula! We had a great time and can't wait to do it again. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Night Fishing Our family night fishing went well, aside from the weather. The boys learned a little about foul weather safety. While we dodged the storm we had a nice cookout in the shelterhouse. The Bluegill were biting like crazy! Jon caught the big one of the night, a big grouchy channel cat. He was approximatly 22 inches. Way to go Jon! Poor "Master Angler" Chris didn't get anything but a hard time. Better luck next time.
![]() Setting Up Luminaria This year we participated in the American cancer Society Relay For Life. It started in February, a parent very comitted to the relay brought up the idea to the scouts. She asked if we could set out the luminaria, we decided to form a team. We didn't have a whole lot of time to mess around so we got right down to fundraising. The boys had a bake sale, sold luminaria, sold stars and moons and asked area businesses for donations. The boys were able to raise over 1400.00 for the Relay For Life.
The boys set up luminaria and had someone on the track for the entire eighteen hour event, which is incredible given the small size of our pack. We learned alot from the event, we really saw how many people are affected by cancer. We also saw that we CAN make a difference! We have decided to participate in the relay next year and we are looking to double our contribution! OUR INSPIRATION
We all have different reasons for wanting to find a cure for cancer. One of us “hates cancer”, because it took his “Me Me” away from him. Members of our pack have lost parents, friends, grandparents and other family members to this monster we call cancer. Some of us have helplessly watched as cancer slowly took the life from a loved one. We all know the destruction that cancer leaves behind; we all have our individual stories. We have one story in common, our inspiration for being here today.
Dennis has brain cancer, he’s had it since he was four. To us Dennis is a friend and a true inspiration. We go to school with Dennis when he is well enough, and we miss him when he’s not. We have prayed for Dennis when we know he’s going to the hospital for another surgery. We have cried when the news wasn’t what we wanted and we have cheered when he conquered another battle. Dennis is an amazing person, even though he is only 11, he is our hero.
We call him our hero because he is the bravest, strongest person we have ever had the honor to meet. He has had more thrown at him at age eleven than most people see in a lifetime. You won’t see Dennis feeling sorry for himself, we’ve been told that he said God gave it to him for a reason. Dennis has felt so much pain, pain we could never imagine. You would never know to look at him, Dennis always has a smile on his face and what a beautiful smile it is. Dennis stands proud, looks his enemy in the eye and never backs down. He has more courage than all of us put together, the makings of a real hero.
When Dennis grows up he wants to be a chaplain in the United States Army, he wants to help other people. He loves the United States Of America with a passion you seldom see. He has touched so many people, in many ways. He has shown us that nothing is impossible and how strong a person can be. So today when we take each step we will stand proud and walk in honor of Dennis. As we walk, we will be praying that everything that has been raised for The American Cancer society will be enough to give the scientists the tools they need to eradicate cancer from everyone’s lives.
