Parent Information The new parents brochure for parents new to our troop is now available online. Just download this link: THIS Adobe PDF FILE. (Click on the brown type and wait a few minutes while the file opens.) For information regarding the Troop guidelines and by-laws go to the Troop Handbook page. There you will find the answers to many of your frequently asked questions. If you cannot find the information you need, talk to any adult leader or Scouter. You can also email any questions, comments, and suggestions through the Email contact box found in the lower right hand corner of the home page of this website.
For any adults who are planning to help out in any capacity (that's all of you, right. it's only an hour a week. LOL!) it is important that you understand you must be Youth Protection Trained in order to fulfill that goal. We need trained adults and leaders to help guide these young men on their way. New to the Troop or has your son recently crossed over from Cubs? The Simon Kenton Council and Boy Scouts of America require all adults (anyone over 18 years of age is an adult) having contact with the Scouts be trained and must take the Youth protection training provided online. http:http://www.scouting.org/training/youthprotection.aspx The certificate is good for two years. There other trainings you can take online and most of those are yearly and must be renewed prior to any Troop activity. Myscouting.org You’re going to want to explore this site. Even if you’re not planning to go into Scroll down to where it says “Fast Start Training” under “Training Courses”. Click on “Boy Scout Fast Start Online” Now, you are registered for any online courses you take. When you log in Log out and take a break. When you’re ready, take another course. This time when you log on select Those two courses are required for any role from Committee Member up to Scoutmaster. If all these directions sound complicated, it was more difficult to type up than actually go and explore the site. Simon Keaton Council has put this information together in a single location for you to use. Since you have already registered with the SKC another option is the Troop Committee Online Training. If you have someone in Scouts this is good information about how the leadership is set up. It's also a good refresher course for the Committee Member that's been around for a while. Plan a block of time 'cause there IS a quiz or two to take! Another good idea is to look over the policy concerning Board(s) of Review. Each Scout will endure this several times and it is reasonable to expect as an adult you will be asked to participate in at least a few!
