Garage Sale This year's (2007) event is over and we had the biggest one yet according to all early reports. Thanks Ann for organizing this again this year! The day shift this year was manned mostly by the McCoy team securing the loose ends left from the previous night shift. Many more than we can name here helped set up this years' sale but a special shout out goes to Paul Steffen and Don Tong who provided wooden pallets to help keep stuff off the ground. Christine Curry, Kathy Slaughter, and Becky McDaniel thank you for your faithful help. We held the majority of the sale outside again this year because K-Mart allowed us to use their tents (Thanks!). Imperial Cleaners, Pierce Dry Cleaners and Bart's Dry Cleaners gave us hangers for the clothing display. (Time-consuming but shoppers seemed to like it ! ) Thanks also to The Fixture Connection for use of the clothing racks and a pallet jack. Vehicle storage again was provided by Northend Wrench. For the week of set up volunteers were provided food by Donatos Pizza, Smith's Deli, Nancy's Home Cooking, Chipoltles, Buffalo Wild Wings and Just Pies. The sale itself netted operating funds for the entire year and for that we thank our many buyer/supporters that came out on Saturday. After the sale we contributed to the community by donating to several outreach organizations: Materials Assistance Providers (MAP), Planet Aid, First Link in conjunction with UPS' winter clothing drive, clients from the Clintonville/Beechwold Community Center, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church's book store, Clintonville Florist Shop, Interfaith Hospitality Network, and a local animal shelter. SWACO provided a recycling dumpster, (which we filled with glass & cardboard). Congratulations and a big thank you to the 70 plus that manned the sale and an extra big thank you to the people that organized and worked so hard behind the scenes (and also in the trenches)! The Boy Scouts of Troop 474 would like to thank the Clintonville community and Overbrook Presbyterian Church for their outstanding support of our annual Garage Sale. Sales were brisk during the entire 6 hours of the sale this last year. Not only did we raise cash for our Troop, but we had some stuff left to give to these fine charities: Volunteers of America, Naimah Children's Services, Material Assistance Providers, United Methodist Free Store, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, "The Bookworm" Bookstore, Planet Aid, West Second Avenue Presbyterian Church clothes pantry, Project Help and clients from the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center. Cliff Wiltshire and SWACO recycled the glass and cardboard, Paul Steffen arranged to recycle the steel items. During the week of set up we wish to thank Clara Wiltshire and the following businesses for donating to our cause: Arbys, Bear Rock Cafe, Chipoltles, Jersey Mike's Subs, Just Pies, Northend Wrench, Pig Iron BBQ, and Villa Nova. The Boy Scouts of Troop 474 would like to thank the Clintonville community for its outstanding support of our annual Garage Sale. Our Aug. 20 event was a huge success on all fronts, thanks to many friends and neighbors and especially our troop sponsor, Overbrook Presbyterian Church. How do we judge our success? --We assisted people in our community by collecting household goods from their homes. --We raised funds for our troop's 2005-06 activities. --We got a lot of items into the hands of people who needed, or wanted, them. --We recycled a lot of cardboard and glass. --We donated many items to charitable organizations, including: Material Assistance Providers; Clintonville-Beechwold Resource Center; Friends of the Ohio State University Library; the Whetstone Recreation Center; the Interfaith Hospitality Network; the Keys to the Kingdom Church; Buckeye Bargains; Naimah Children Services; and the Bookworm at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Along with our terrific donors, shoppers, neighbors and alumni, our hard-working troop was supported by a number of local businesses including: Caribou Coffee; Chipotle; Cornerstone Deli; Coldstone Creamery; Dante's Pizza; Just Pies; Kroger; Northend Wrench; Panera; Penske Trucking; Pig Iron BBQ; Scottie McBean; Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio; Subway at Graceland; the Suisse Shop; Swan Cleaners; Wendy's; and Whole World. Your support of this annual event is so important as these young men grow into the leaders of our future. Thanks to you all. Tim McCoy, scoutmaster; Susan Burghes, garage sale coordinator |
