A message from Ted Shigley: "Hello to Pack 74 Leaders and parents: Another Leader from our Pack was selected as an Award Recipient: Paige Maston I want to congratulate Paige for being selected by the Buckeye Volunteer Recognition committee as recipient of a district award. Her name got misspelled, or typed incorrectly, and could not be matched up with a Pack. After a little bit of searching, she was reconnected to PACK 74. yea!!! Congratulations Paige, along with the others from our Pack, Diane, David, Nikki and Nancy. As I mentioned before, this award will be presented at the District volunteer recognition dinner, on Saturday, February 9, 2008. This event will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2070 Ridgecliff Road, in Upper Arlington. There will be a dinner starting at 6:00pm and the recognition/ awards presentation starting at 7:00pm. I encourage all of you to consider attending the District Dinner and recognition event. I have attached the link to the District website for more information. If you can attend please complete the RSVP form and return it to the Council office as soon as possible. http://www.skcbsa.org/buckeye/about/dinner.htm Thanks not only to the recipients, but all of you as leaders and volunteers with Pack 74. | What is Cub Scouting?
Cub Scouting is a family- and home-centered program for boys in the first through fifth grade. Cub Scouting's emphasis is on quality program at the local level, where the most boys and families are involved. Fourth- and fifth-grade (or 10-year-old) boys are called Webelos (WE'll BE LOyal Scouts) and participate in more advanced activities that begin to prepare them to become Boy Scouts. Since 1930, the Boy scouts of America have helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. Parents and leaders (called "Akela ")and organizations such as our sponsoring church (Overbrook Church) work together to achieve the purposes of cub scouting. Currently, Cub Scouting is the largest of three divisons of BSA. The other divisions are Boy scouts and Venturers (Co-ed).

Who can join?.. Any boy in Grades 1-5 can become a Cub Scout! Once a Scout has joined the Pack he will start to earn his Bobcat Rank, once he's earned his Bobcat he can start in on the program of Rank appropriate for his Grade and age.
|
Advancement, Fees & Fundraising Recognition is important to young boys. The Cub Scouting advancement plan provides fun for the boys and gives them a sense of personal achievement as they earn their Badges of Rank, as well as other notable pins and insignia. There are monthly dues and yearly dues. The monthly dues are collected by your den leader and are used to offset cost for each dens crafts and activities. The yearly dues pay for the overall programing cost per Scout and are set by the pack committee after carefully reviewing the annual budget. Our largest and most profitable fundraiser is the Trails End Popcorn sale.

The Inside Track
It's not just about the Pinewood Derby races!
Parental Involvement is the key! We have great Leaders in the Pack, but we're only with your Scout about an hour a week, the other 167 hours are up to you, the parent. As with any school subject or sport - your support is vital to your Scouts' success. Be curious and involved, ask questions and be excited! If you are able to volunteer in the Pack please talk to a Committee Member, one of them can help you find a position in which your strengths will give the most support.
Colors:
Blue & Gold; they have special meaning, which will help boys see beyond the fun of cub scouting to the ultimate goal of all cub scouts, "THE ARROW OF LIGHT".
