Cub Scouts provides boys a place to learn the pride of earning recognition and achieving success. Awards are an important part of the Cub Scouts experience. Remember, Scouts are only as involved as their parents. Many awards may be achieved through the Scout working with his parent or family members. A few special awards on which you might work are:

BSA FAMILY AWARD

A fun award for Scouts and their families to achieve is Cub Scouting’s BSA Family Award. The award requirement consists of doing activities in each of five areas in a 12 month or less period. The activities are designed to bring families closer together and encourage both fun and responsibility among family members. Once the ten activities are completed, each member of the family receives an award: the Scout receives a BSA Family Award patch and the other members of his family receive pin. Several families in our Pack have completed the award and all agree that it is a good guide to family fun. The Scout Shop sells copies of the Cub Scouting BSA Family Activity Book.

GOD AND COUNTRY AWARDS

The God and Country series of awards is sponsored by P.R.A.Y., the Programs of Religious Activities with Youth. Although the awards are not awarded by the BSA, they are endorsed by the BSA and all Scouts are encouraged to earn them. The award is presented by the Scout's church, and a Religion Knot is presented by the Pack to acknowledge the award. The award is earned by completing the appropriate workbook for the Scout's faith, participating in workbook activities, and meeting with the Scout's congregation's leader.

The God and Me award is presented to 1st through 3rd graders. Earning this award satisfies one of the achievements in the Bear handbook. The God and Family award is presented to 4th and 5th graders. Earning this award satisfies one of the achievements in the Webelos handbook. A God and Family class is being held on the third Wednesday of September, October, November, December, and January at 7 p.m. at Overbrook Church for any Webelos Scout who is interested in earning the award. Please call Paige Maston to register.

The God and Church and God and Country awards are earned during the Boy Scout years (grades 6-12).

Any Cub Scout can earn these awards, working either alone or in a group. The workbooks are available at the Scout Store.

For more information on the Religious Awards, log on to www.praypub.org or visit the Scout Shop for a copy of the workbooks. The workbooks are $3.50 each. You can also contact Paige Maston, our Pack's God and Country Awards contact.
