Union County Project Linus Chapter Begins
The Union County Chapter of
Project Linus was started on
February 28, 2007 by Kim
Mathewson, a member of Calvary
Baptist Church in Marysville. Kim's passion for Project Linus comes as a result of her son's death in 2004. Jason Mathewson was killed in a car accident at the age of 16. One thing that Kim struggled with during that time is that she could not be there to comfort him when this happened. He died almost instantly and they did not know of the accident until he had already passed. Because of this, Kim has a strong desire to help and comfort children going through difficult times. What a better way than to offer a comfort blanket to them. We welcome anyone to become a blanketeer for our Project Linus Chapter here in Union County.
Project Linus is a volunteer
non-profit organization with a
two-fold mission.
We are looking for “blanketeers” to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children in need in Union County. Kim's home at 16831 Wheeler Green Rd. Marysville, Ohio, will be our storage and distribution center. We can arrange to pick up blankets if needed, or you may drop them off at the Lighthouse Christian Book Store in Marysville, the Richwood North Union Public Library in Richwood, or the Lonestar Quilting Company in Marysville. Please ask at the desk where to leave your donation. If you would like more information, please contact: Kim Mathewson (937-642-5124) 16831 Wheeler Green Rd. Marysville, Ohio 43040 or email her at plucohio@yahoo.com. You may also visit the National website @ http://www.projectlinus.org We welcome calls from anyone who knows of a child we can help. Together we can make a difference.

Haiti Relief Update! Dear Blanketeers, Yes - we need more blankets for children in Haiti!!! I know that's not a surprise to any of you as we watch the news reports of the devastation produced by the earthquake - and especially all of the suffering children. As things get more organized - the relief organizations are responding to our offer to help. After the initial 10,000 requested, we were able to fill the need from our chapters in less than 20 hours. We had no idea we would have such a tremendous response. But, unfortunately, many of our chapters were left out. We KNEW something else would come along - and it has! Tami, one of our coordinators in Ohio was able to give us a contact for another organization, called Christian Aid Ministries and We have been working with them to make shipping arrangements. (http://www.christianaidministries.org/) Thank you Tami!!! Christian Aid is requesting 10,000 + blankets. They will take any size or type of blankets. Our fleece NO SEW pattern on our website is very popular, very quick and very easy if you would like to refer your volunteers to our website for the pattern (click on Patterns and Links). You are in no way limited to the fleece blankets - it's just a suggestion. Our contact said that any type or size is fine. This is a "comfort mission" and they use all types (quilts, afghans or fleece) and sizes of blankets. All blankets must be new and hand made. I KNOW we can do it! It's a HUGE request, but I have NO DOUBT that the communities across the country will help if we just ask! It's a tangible way for individuals, families and especially children to get involved! Please pass the word. i have gotten so many phone calls from the article in the Newspaper that I have no doubt our chapter can make 300 blankets for the children of Haiti. I am asking that all blankets for this effort be turned in no later than Monday February 8th. Please call me about large donations so that I can pick them up personally. Smaller donations can be brought to our drop off points and I will check them often. We will be needing approxiamtely $600 to ship these blankets to the Christian Aid Ministries location. Please consider making a donation for this effort. We already have one church in Plain City willing to contribute $100 towards the shipping cost, boxes for shipping and blankets! You can send the check to my name and address below. I can send you a tax receipt if you would like one. Please let me know. 2010 Make A Blanket Day Plans February 20, 2010 is the Project Linus National Make A Blanket Day. This is a day to get together with other Blanketeers in our county and have fun. We have two things planned for this year. First of all, we are having an opportunity for quilters to make a memorial quilt . To participate, you need to contact Debbie at Lonestar Quilting Company. She can accommodate 10 ladies in her work room at the store, so you must sign up to participate. All you have to bring is your sewing machine and cutting tools. We will us donated funds to put together kits for these blankets. It has always been my goal to have a special butterfly quilt to be given to the family when a child passes away. Please contact Debbie Wheeler at deb@lonestarquilting.net or call her at the store ASAP @ 644-1234, and make a blanket in a day. These blankets will be approximately 30”x30”. We will be meeting from 1-4pm at the store. The second part of our Make A Blanket Day will take place at the Windsor Senior Center. The meeting room is located at 376 Rosehill Drive. Just follow the blue “Windsor Senior Center” signs off S.R. 38 or Milford Ave. At the Windsor location, we will be making skip stitch blankets. I have a box of donated fleece that will be used and I have purchased yarn to make the blankets. The ladies from Warm Up America will be on hand, as well as Project Linus volunteers, to teach anyone who wants to learn, how to crochet. We will be meeting from 1-4pm at this location as well. All you need to bring is a crochet hook. I recommend a size J hook. This should be a lot of fun. If you have always wanted to learn how to crochet, this is a great opportunity and an easy project. You can call me @ 642-5124 or email me @ plucohio@yahoo.com if you have any questions.
