ARES -- RACESARES = Amateur Radio Emergency Service. RACES = Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service.
ARES is used by ARES members when they provide communications for parades, runs, walks, missing persons, and other worthy projects. ARES may be activated before, during, and after an emergecny. Usually, ARES handles all emergency messages, including those between government emergency management officials. RACES administered by local, county and state emergency management agencies, and supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of the United States government, is a part of the Amateur Radio Service that provides radio communications for civil-preparedness purposes only, during periods of local, regional or national civil emergencies. Emergency Management Agency, (once called Civil Defense) must call for and activate the RACES members when communications support is needed. This usually happens during the emergency and during the immediate aftermath. RACES is normally shut down shortly after the emergency has cleared.
If tones are necessary on any of our repeaters due to interference, 103.5 will be used. Below is a preamble for net calling. A preamble is a guide for use by those calling the net. To print the preamble, with your mouse move the cursor to the beginning of the title, OHIO, hold the left button and scroll down to the bottom, with the whole preamble high lighted, release the left button of your mouse and click the right button, in the commands select print, on your printer page select selection and then print this will print the preamble only.
