Springwood Lake Red Hat Ladies

"The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and elan. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life, and since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together.

Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next." {Founder, Sue Ellen Cooper"

The Red Hat Society has become our own women’s movement – not strident, not angry – with a strong emphasis on the positive aspects of life, stressing the importance of friendship and sisterhood, the value of play, and a determination to find the good in life everywhere possible.

The Red Hat Ladies

Always a sell-out crowd pleaser which will have your heart
pumping for the memories you still cherish

Who is Ruby RedHat ?

The official mascot of the Red Hat Society is Ruby RedHat, a frisky, full-figured little lady cleverly disguised as an adult.

"Ruby is the spirit of the little girl who lives inside all “mature” Red Hatters.

She usually dresses in quite the lady-like style and she can comport herself in just as refined a manner as the most royal among us.

But, she has an irrepressible side to her personality too, and, try as she might (and we don’t think she tries very hard), she always succumbs to the temptation to just let go and have a ball!.....

IS SHE “REAL”? Ruby is height-challenged, being only 10 inches tall, but she is definitely real.

We have discovered, though, that not everyone can see her.

It seems that you have to possess a certain spirit of fun to actually see her.

Otherwise, she remains a bit imaginary.... One reason for that is that she is constantly taking off to see what fun there is to be had all over the place.

Ruby is the embodiment of the attributes and attitudes that Red Hatters admire and hope to emulate themselves.

 Ruby's 10 Rules for Living

Here are Ruby RedHat's Top Ten Rules for Living, Plus One. (In her typical fashion, she says there's always room for one more!) While the Red Hat Society has no rules, per se.
Ruby's rules for living are worth listening to!

1.Accept reality and live in the here and now. Ruby can't be bothered with "what-ifs" or regrets. She says they interfere with her fun!

2.Accentuate the positive. Ruby always chooses to find the good in any situation she is faced with. She says she would rather develop laugh lines than frown lines.

3.Nurture yourself. Ruby listens to herself and provides for her own needs. When she needs a break, she gives herself one!

4.Indulge your sense of humor. Ruby heartily appreciates the value of laughter.

5.Play! Either Ruby never grew up all the way or she has regressed. In either event, she knows how to have a great time!

6.Dress up! Ruby adores embellishing whatever she is wearing with glitz, glitter, and glam.

7.Cultivate an openness to new things. Ruby will try almost anything.

8.Express your creativity. Ruby thinks "outside the hatbox".

9.Exercise compassion. Ruby loves to laugh and cry with others.

10.Have courage! Ruby knows she is up to the challenge of whatever may come.

11.Make up for the sobriety of your youth!

Ruby says that she, too, was dutiful in her younger years and now she has a lot of quirky stuff that she needs to get done!

Remember when Peter Pan asked everyone to recite “I believe in fairies”, in order to bring the ailing Tinkerbell back to life?

We of The Red Hat Society now ask you,

“Do you believe in Ruby?”
