Cultural Competency, Sensitivity & Diversity Training:

This curriculum focuses on the total system of values, beliefs, attitudes, traditions, and standards of behavior that regulate life within a particular group of people. It emphasizes that culture includes components that organize people into social groups that regulate both individual and group behavior... ethnicity and culture are not interchangeable...culture, in contrast to race, gender, or ethnicity, is transmitted through learning. Through a variety of training, consultation, program evaluation, and facilitation activities; in a sensitive, mutually respectful, and collaborative environment, assistance is offered in a variety of ways, which include the following:

• Help understand concepts of culture and diversity, and recognize the strengths and limitations in all cultures and how to apply them to everyday life;

• Help understand how ones own culture affects their perceptions of and responses to other people;

• Help promote cultural self-awareness and understanding;

• Help recognize that lack of awareness can create interpersonal conflict;

• Help agencies train individuals, young and old alike, to acquire the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to function in a culturally and racially diverse world;

• Help educational institutions, businesses and communities to value the human diversity that is found within their educational and/or workplace;

• Engage in cross-cultural learning activities which help gain in-depth knowledge of the history and culture of different ethnic and cultural groups;

• Connect participants with current concepts, resources and information;

• Discussion and resources that provide a conceptual framework and practical strategies for dealing effectively with implementing multicultural concepts and activities ins schools and classrooms through the use of age-appropriate curricula.
