Information about Thomas Alva Edision
Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in the town of Milan, Ohio. He was the youngest of seven children. He moved back to Port Huron, Michigan when he was seven years old. He was called "Al" for his middle name Alva. Al had a difficult time in school and was taught at home by his mother, who happened to be a teacher. Alva was a very curious boy who was always trying to figure something out. When he didn't know something he would ask lots of questions. He loved to read and read many books. When he was nine years old, his mother gave him a book about science experiments. He earned money to buy chemicals for his basement lab experiments. When he was 13 he got his first job selling newspapers, food, and candy on a railroad car near his home. He spent all the money he would make on his experiments. Alva began to print his own newspaper and he built a traveling chemical lab on the train. Unfortunately the lab caught on fire and set the train on fire. Alva was 15 when he learned to use the telegraph. The telgraph was a new invention used by the railroads. While Al was at the railroad station, he saw a little boy playing on the tracks while a train approached the depot. He quickly rescued the boy and returned him to his father, who happened to be the stationmaster. The father was so grateful to Al that he offered him a job as a telegraph operator. Al learned how to use the telegraph and moved from place to place working as an operator. Al would constantly be experimenting. His very first invention was a repeating telegraph. He had to send messsages every half hour, so to save time he hooked the telegraph to a clock to send the telegraphs automatically.

Use your HTML coding for paragraph breaks and font size and color changes. Or you can do your entire page in two columns by turning off all your full-page sections and using only your tandem sections.
Notice that we have turned off the second 1/2-column section below this one so you can see what it looks like to turn a section off.
