Victory Baptist Chapel was recently honored by the St. Clairsville area Chamber of Commerce as a recipient of their Community Improvement Award. The plaque we received is hanging on the wall of the side entrance opposite the bulletin boards. Our building was considered for this award last year but the Chamber decided to wait until the building was finished. We had great representation at the luncheon at Belmont Hills Country Club. John accepted our award and presented the Chamber with one of our dedication plates. He was told that no one had ever done anything like that before. Others attending were Maggie, Marie, Clayton, Willard, Bob Beike (our Associational Missionary) and Darrell and Philly. We were very pleased that Bob, Darrell, and Philly were able to attend. Thanks to a couple of families, we have scaffolding we need for various jobs in the Chapel. However, the scaffolding presented another problem, that of where to store it. We now have a storage shed located directly behind the Chapel, between the two HVAC units. There are passages in the Bible which some feel are difficult to understand, and therefore many misinterpretations are made. I believe that we should first take God's Word at face value, ie, the first chapter of Genesis says that everything was created in six days. The word used for days with the description "evening and morning" were the "first" day, (and second thru sixth day) indicate the days to be periods of 24 hours each. There are also passages which are not to be taken literally but may be allegorical. These passages should be interpreted in light of other scripture, because God's Word will give us the correct interpretation of them. And then there are passages which we will not be able to interpret and/or understand. We should not be discouraged if we do not TOTALLY understand all scripture because God Himself says in Deuteronomy 29:29 "The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law." In the final analysis we can only understand scripture as the Holy Spirit gives us the understanding. We should pray for guidance in those areas where we are confused or lack understanding.
