The sixty members of our club are volunteers in Pittsburg County. We have four departments within which we meet on a monthly basis. We have a Spring Banquet once a year to be sure we all know each other. We conduct business when needed and always have fun.

Our 2019 Spring Banquet was held on May 14th at the McAlester Country Club. Our Guest Speakers spoke on the topics of WOMEN of ACTION: PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE.

GFWC MCALESTER FORTNIGHTLY JOINS NATIONAL EFFORT TO COLLECT THOUSANDS OF SHOES FOR SOLES4SOULS

April 25, 2019 GFWC McAlester Fortnightly has joined the General Federation of Women's Clubs' 2018-2020 Shoe Donation Grand Initiative to collect thousands of gently-worn shoes nationwide for a cooperative giving project. McALester Fortnightly's shoe drive will help Soles4Souls, soles4souls.org, provide meaningful opportunities that many in developing nations need.

The World Bank estimates that approximately 767 million people live on less than $1.90 per day, affording few with the funds to purchase shoes for their family.

The Federation's national shoe donation drive is one of Seven Grand Initiatives for its 2018-2020 Adminstration, a vehicle for GFWC members to Live the Volunteer Spirit to the 1000th power. The Shoe Donation Grand Initiative is one of the many ways that GFWC is striving to make a difference in conservation community service areas. GFWC's Conservation Community Service Program promotes environmental appreciation by developing sustainable habits to preserve, maintain, and restore our world's natural resources.Soles4Souls is a nonprofit social enterprise that creates sustainable jobs and provides relief through the distribution of shoes and clothing around the world. Founded in 2006, the organization has distributed more than 30 million pairs of new and gently-worn shoes in 127 countries.

GFWC McAlester Fortnightly celebrates their 115th Anniversary in 2019 as a Federated Club donating countless number of volunteer hours and dollars to the McAlester area and Pittsburgh County. Federated in 1904, this group of women were dedicated to first creating a free public library which they achieved. Recently, Clubwomen donate their time, energy and funds to the Youth Emergency Shelter, Hope House, KIBOIS Women's Shelter, OLklahomans for Independent Living, Good Samaritan Shelter, Eastern Oklahoma Food Bank, Pinwheels for Prevention with awareness of child abuse and the Child Abuse Prevention Conference along with American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

The General Fedeartion of Women's Clubs is a unifying force, bringing together local women's clubs, with members dedicated to strengthening their communities and enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. With nearly 80,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state and more than a dozen countries, GFWC members are community leaders who work locally to create global change by supporting the arts, preserving natural resources, advancing education, promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging civic involvement, and working toward world peace and understanding.
