

News GFWC-OK McAlester Fortnightly members are ending their 2008 year as busy as ever. The Cornerstone Creations Department Held their SOUP LUNCHEON in November to benefit cancer victims in our area. McAlester Hospice received a cash contribution from the funds raised during this fun event. Many thanks to all who worked to make this event a success and to those who donated their funds to receive a delicious soup lunch. Great team work enabled this group to pull this complicated event off.
The Homemakers Department collected items for the local Battered Women's Shelter supporting the GFWC International President's project of Domestic Violence.
Over 75 drawstring bags with toiletries inside were donated.
The Ceramic & Crafts department collected canned goods which were delivered to charity. Casual Gourmet members continue work on the walking trail at Mike Deak Field improving the landscaping for residents who walk each day for their health.

 GFWC-OK McAlester Fortnightly members have completed their 2008 year of volunteer work with two projects to generate funds for charities, have attended a GFWC-OK Spring Convention in April, 2008 and have participated in the GFWCOK SE District meeting in October, which was held this year in Antlers, OK. Members have participated in these projects along with local charity work in Pittsburg County supporting the McAlester C.A.R.E. Center, McAlester Hospice and Meals on Wheels.

Cornerstone Creations Dept. chose the Jaimie Beall family to provide Christmas to. Jaimie is a recent Breast Cancer survivor who has 4 young boys under the age of 12.

Cornerstone Department members held a SOUP LUNCHEON to raise funds for cancer victims in our area. McAlester Hospice Director Rhonda Kurvink joined the members for their holiday luncheon held at THE MEETING PLACE restaurant. Entertainment for this banquet was provided by Homemakers member, Kathy Brod, and Mayor elect, Kevin Priddle, who played his guitars and sang songs about "The kinds of shoes we wear".

68 members and guests enjoyed the food, fellowship, entertainment and award ceremonies.
