GFWC-OK McAlester Fortnightly members are preparing to enter their Fall 2011 term as busy as ever. The Cornerstone Creations Department has sewn over 30 armbands to donate to Operation Smile. Many thanks to the 13 members of this department of McAlester Fortnightly.

Children in Afghanistan benefitted from the Done in a Day Project during the SE District meeting last fall. School Supplies to fill 45 backpacks were donated by the 7 clubs in SE District.

The Homemakers Department continues to collect Box Tops for Education and Campbell's Soups labels which will be donated to the William Gay Early Childhood Center. This Department holds a live auction bringing items themselves. Proceeds are donated to the local Battered Women's Shelter supporting the GFWC International project of Domestic Violence Awareness.

The Ceramic & Crafts department will hold their Nov. fundraiser by providing brunch and numerous items for Silent Auction.

Casual Gourmet members continue work on the walking trail at Mike Deak Field improving the landscaping for residents who walk each day for their health.

GFWC-OK McAlester Fortnightly members have completed their 2010 year of volunteer work with many projects to generate funds for charities, have attended a GFWC-OK Spring Convention in April, 2010 and have participated in the GFWCOK SE District meeting in October, which was held in Wilburton, OK. Members have participated in these projects along with local charity work in Pittsburg County supporting the McAlester C.A.R.E. Center, McAlester Hospice and Meals on Wheels.


Kathy Brod, member of the Homemakers Department of McAlester Fortnightly and Vice President of GFWC-OK SE District was in charge of the Done in a Day project at the October meeting held in Wilburton. The Clubwomen of 7 clubs in SE District gathered enough school supplies to fill 65 backpacks.

Cornerstone Department members donated funds for cancer victims in our area. McAlester Hospice Director Rhonda Kurvink joined the members for their holiday luncheon. Shown donating the funds to Hospice is Linda Navratil, Director.

Clubwomen within Homemaker's Department held a "Make, Bake, Sew, Grow It" live auction to benefit the McAlester Care Center. Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Program is the signature program of GFWC International. Shown in the photo is Nancy Sparks, Mary Coker and Diedre Harris.

Cornerstone Clubwomen donate pillowcases they created to the women's homeless shelter, Hope House.

25 year pin recipients from Homemakers are: Janis Allford, Ina Blackman, Dolores Miller, LaVonne Halliburton and Mary Stipe.

Literary Director, Zoe Duran, presents Mary Jean Jackson with her 50 year pin and Norine Jones and Vicki Dakil with their 25 year pins.

Ada Nell Ward is presented her 25 year service pin by Casual Gourmet Director, Karen Stobaugh.

Homemakers Clubwomen enjoyed their holiday meeting at the McAlester Country Club. They donated funds to purchase Christmas gifts for the 17 women and children housed at the McAlester Care Center.

Mary Coker acts in a play written by and acted by Stephanie Swennia. This was held during our Fall General Meeting. Other actors were Kathy Brod and Celia Scherman.

Entertainment for this banquet was provided by Homemakers member, Kathy Brod, and Mayor elect, Kevin Priddle, who played his guitars and sang songs about "The kinds of shoes we wear".

The Care Center quilt donated by Vonnie Hudson was bid on and won by Reta Descher. Seater with her is Kim Mansour. Both are Ceramic and Crafts members.

Once Again, our club made our goal bringing in new members. Pictured is homemaker's newest member, tee hee.
