The Historical Society has erected roadside granite markers to commemorate important historic sites within the county. Special granite markers have been erected to honor Choctaw principal Chiefs; Samuel Garland, Jefferson Gardner, Isaac Garvin, George Hudson, and Peter Pitchlynn. The marker shown below is located on Highway 70 between Garvin and Millerton, OK in McCurtain County and describes historic Wheelock Academy which is located nearby.
