Eagle Scout To be an Eagle Scout is a great achievement and attaining that level of scouting requires a lot of dedication and perseverance. The requirements are few but very important. You do not have to finish the other requirements before starting your Eagle Project. Because there are a lot of misconceptions about the service leadership project, this page dedicates a lot of space to the project. There are many types of projects. The main requirement is that the scout have a significant leadership opportunity and that the project cannot benefit a business or the boy scouts. It should instead benefit a non-profit entity such as a church, park, school, or other worthy enterprise. The very first thing one should do is to download The Eagle Leadership Service Project Workbook. This is your guide to properly organizing and presenting your proposal. The National Council website has a set of guidelines which provides a basic overview of the Eagle Leadership Service Project. Other good sources for information about becoming an Eagle Scout are Eaglescout.org and the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Planning Guide by Randall C. Smith of Troop 389 in Arlington, Texas. Remember, it is not so important what you do for your Eagle Leadership Service Project, but rather the leadership you show in accomplishing it. Project Preapproval: After you have read the The Eagle Leadership Service Project Workbook contact Steve Mason, the Troop 193 Eagle Coordinator, at 842-2628 (home), 842-1066 (office), or sm@cardinalengineers.com to discuss your ideas for your Eagle project. Possible projects can be found by asking representatives of your school, your favorite charities, your local government, or your house of worship for suggestions. After selecting your project concept, obtain verbal project approval from the organization that your project will benefit and Mr. Mason. This approval will help you be sure that your project will afford you the leadership opportunity worthy of the Eagle rank. After verbal approval, please type your information into the form found at The Eagle Leadership Service Project Workbook on the internet and forward it to Mr. Mason at sm@cardinalengineers.com or fax it to him at 843-4687. The completed internet form of The Eagle Leadership Service Project Workbook can be saved to your computer. Mr. Mason recommends a separate paragraph for each concept discussed in Project Details such as "Plan your work by describing the present condition, the method, materials to be used, etc, etc." Prepare drawings of your proposed project, a budget and, if needed, a method to raise money to complete your project. After Mr. Mason reviews and approves your project, the Troop 193 scoutmaster, will then review and approve your project. Your project will then reviewed by the Baden-Powell District Eagle Review Committee, which meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Mayfair Heights United Methodist Church at 3131 NW 50th Street at 7:00pm. The committee uses the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Evaluation Form to evaluate your project. It is a good checklist for you to use as well. It is recommended that you arrive at 7:00 pm and be sure to sign the sign up sheet. You will be chosen randomly and not in the order you arrived. The committee likes to have three copies of your project proposal for review. Contact Mr. Chris Daughtrey at 405-514-2870 to schedule a review by the Baden-Powell committee. It is important that you contact Mr. Daughtrey personally, not your parents. Carrying out your project: Congratulations on your project approval. While carrying out your project, take pictures, record the hours spent by volunteers and document any changes you make to your project. Approval of your completed project: Complete the second half of your The Eagle Leadership Service Project Workbook. Ask the service desk at the Last Frontier Council office for a record of your merit badges and a copy of the two page Eagle Scout Application. If any merit badges are missing from the Last Frontier merit badge record, ask Mrs. Love to help you correct the merit badge records. Complete the Eagle Scout Application which can be obtained at the scout office and obtain your references. Ask Mr. Mason to review and approve these completed items. The Scoutmaster and Mr. McCampbell, the Troop 193 committee chairman, will then review, approve, and sign your project. The Last Frontier Council office will then review your project. Your project will then be reviewed by the Baden -Powell District Eagle Review Committee at your final Board of Review. Contact Mr. Daughtrey at 514-2870 to schedule this Board of Review. The committee uses the Eagle Eagle Scout Application Checklist to review your project. It is a good checklist for you to use as well. Upon receiving the approval of the Baden-Powell Committee, a copy of your project is sent to the National Council. Upon its final approval, you are an Eagle Scout. Congratulations! |
