 High Adventure
High adventure is the ultimate scout camping experience. It is a significant accomplishment to complete a high adventure trek. Our troop normally rotates between a Philmont trek at Philmont Scout Ranch, a canoe base trek with the Northern Tier High Adventure Camp, and Sea Base at the Seabase High Adventure Camp. Any scout who completes this triad will get a special recognition.
Sea Base - August, 2006
Our troop continued its long tradition of High Adventure rotation between Philmont, Sea Base and Canoe Base with a very successful trip to Sea Base. The four scouts that went learned something about the challenges of sailing the open oceans.
Roughing it on the boat.
On the high seas.
Our Captain, Bligh, that is.
Snorkling.
What's that?
fishing for lunch.
Group shot.
Coming into shore.
End of a great trip.

Juneau Alaska - July, 2006
For the first time in our troop's history, a group of highly adventurous scouts planned a high adventure trip to southeast Alaska for sea kayaking, hiking, and glacier exploration. It was arranged for us by the Great Alaska Council. Lee Kadinger and Mike Ferrari were great hosts and taught us a lot.
All here. Ready to go!
Cooking seal meat.
The tide came in and threatened to take our kayaks.
We got a fire started in the rain so we could dry out.
The sun is out. We are loading up the kayaks and taking down the camp.
Be sure to use your upper body, not just your arms to paddle the kayaks.
Hauling in the 350 lb Pacific Sleeper Shark (Somniosus pacificus) in Taku Bay.
The hike to Taku Lake on a trail not used for 15 years.
After the hike it felt good to take off the shoes and dry the feet.
A group picture after the kayaking trek. We travelled about 16 miles the last day.
Cross country skiing on the Mendenhall Glacier.
