CUB SCOUT LEADER TRAINING

Welcome New Leader! Welcome Leader in a new position!

WHY training?

*Boys deserve the best program Scouting and you can offer.

*Your position is easier knowing what is expected and how to go about it.

*Your position is easier when you know the resources available.

*Training is fun and leaders deserve fun.

WHAT training?

1)      New leader? Must attend New Leader Essentials which covers the aims, methods, and mission of Scouting; organization; finances; resources; youth development; and guidelines for a safe program. Changing position and have not attended New Leader Essentials? Attend now.

ONCE YOU HAVE ATTENDED NEW LEADER ESSENTIALS, YOU DO NOT ATTEND AGAIN WHEN YOU CHANGE A POSITION.

2)      Must attend the Cub Scout Specific for the position you hold -- Tiger Cub Den Leader,

Wolf/Bear Den Leader, Webelos Leader, Cubmaster, and Pack Committee Member. Assistants included. Learn about advancement, your position responsibilities, planning, and meeting structure.

WHERE is training?

¨New Leader Essentials -- At different locations across the council.

·Cub Scout Specifics within each districts boundaries.

Trainings are within a half-hour’s drive of where you live. Attend any course that is convenient regardless of which district is offering the course.

WHEN is training?

¨New Leader Essentials -- offered each month of the year except for December and June.

Fall months include multiple offerings including at POW-WOW in November.

·Cub Scout Specifics -- offered several times in the fall and spring and in some months in between. Choose a date that fits your schedule and attend.

Check the Council Leader Training Schedule for date options -- available on our Web site http://www.orgsites.com/ok/yukonpack391/index.html under Training at a Glance and at district Roundtables.

HOW do you sign up?

Pre-registration required. Fees are minimal.

Sign up forms available through the council web site, at roundtables, and at the Council Service Center.

FINAL THOUGHTS

®Take your Training Track Record to each training once you have one.

®Take your Cub Scout Leader Book to each Cub Scout Specific you attend.

IMPORTANT ON LINE TRAINING FOR LEADERS AND PARENTS

#1: The following website has a great overview of the Cub Scout program (the whole concept). Please take a few minutes to review the information in this website. It may help you understand the levels of Cub Scouting. It is great information for everyone… not just leaders! After reviewing Cub Scout Leader Fast Start, please let us know you have done it.

Fast Start

#2: The following website has an awesome course that will help you now and in your coming years with Cub Scouting (and hopefully, Boy Scouting). We would like for each of you to take the time to complete Online Youth Protection Training ASAP as it is mandatory for all adults in our pack.

Youth Protection

Each of you may be asked to help in many ways (helping during den meetings or outings, etc.). Everyone needs to understand the concepts in this course for their own safety and for that of the boys. It’s well worth the time. Please print an extra copy of the certificate for our records.

(Note: choose “Last Frontier Council” as the council and enter your information on the registration page… enter Den #, Pack 391, Yukon” on the organization line. If you are a member of BSA, enter the requested information. If you are not a member… joining as an adult doesn’t mean you have to be a leader… ask us for an adult registration form but go ahead and leave that section blank.)
