WORDS OF WISDOM

What is a Scout?

He enjoys a hike through the woods more than he does a walk over the city streets.
He knows the stars by name and can find his way by them.
When he walks through the woods, he sees things others do not see.
He speaks softly and answers questions modestly.
His sense of honor is his only taskmaster, and his honor he guards as jealously as did the knights of old.
He practices self-control, for he knows that men who master problems in the world must first master themselves.
He never flinches in the face of danger. He must be alert to preserve his safety and that of others.
He desires a strong body, an alert mind, and an unconquerable spirit.
A Scout is one who will always "Be prepared".

Wow

Wow!
Spring is nearly upon us.  Spring Break is here!   And, the school year, well, won't be long until summer.

How's everyone doing in completing their Achievements for Rank, Electives, Beltloops, and Activity Pins?
Won't be long and Graduation will be upon us!

In the coming months we need to look ahead to those Spring and Summertime activities.
Campouts, hikes, and other adventures for the Spring, and DayCamp, Resident Camp, Swim parties, and other Summertime events.
Scouting doesn't end with the school year.  Summer is a great time to have a few outings and gatherings of the Den or Pack.  It also helps the Pack in earning the Summertime Achievement award.  It's not easy, but with your help, we can make it again this year.  It's always a good time when the Pack gets together.  Seeing those old friends and some new.  Don't forget to invite a friend to be a Scout.  Things are always more fun when we can share the time with friends.

I did mention the Day Camp and Resident Camps.
DayCamp will be held at Camp Kickapoo the week of June 16-20, 2008.  Beth Stone and Janet Windom will be back again to run this year's camp.  You'll also see a lot of other familiar faces from last year there again to teach Scouts on various activities.  This year's theme will be based on a SAFARI.  An exciting adventure awaits you.  As to Leadership and Adult participation, the Camp can always use your assistance to help out in many ways.  Volunteers are always needed.  It's great fun to work with the many youth in our District at DayCamp.  Please join us.

Resident Camp is held at Camp George Thomas near Apache.  Another great Camp in the Last Frontier Council.  If you look on the Council's website, you'll find more information as to the variety of camps there this summer in June.  Many of the camps are geared toward Webelos, but there are Cub Scout camps as well.  If you need assistance, I'll try to dig up more information on these camps.  I've not been with the boys to this one, but would like to give it a try.  There is a larger fee for this, and some assistance is available.

Well time to sign off for now.
And, keep that Scouting Spirit Alive!!!
