Kiwanis Board Meeting
Dec 4, 2007
Minutes

Board members present: Wendy Brownell, Greg Storm, Janice Brown, Clare Rollings, Don Boyce, Bob Stalick, Jim Corwin

Minutes from the last meeting were reviewed and approved without changes.

Treasurer’s report was reviewed and approved. The current bank balance is $2586.00.

The roast committee presented a report on the roast that was held in November. ∑ The roast generated net proceeds of $7008.00. ∑ Kiwanis will receive approximately $700.00 of this money. The rest will go to CASA. ∑ The pros and cons of the roast were reviewed. ∑ The general agreement is that the roast is a successful event. It creates good public relations for Kiwanis, it is fun, and it raises money for a worthwhile charity. ∑ The partnership with CASA is a good one. The board will suggest to the membership that we do another roast in 2008.

There was quite a bit of informal discussion among the board members regarding the responsibilities of Kiwanis members. We agreed that Kiwanis is a service club, and members should want to be involved in the community. We also agreed that people of all different income levels should be able to participate, and that finances should not prevent Kiwanians from participating in the club. We discussed the attitudes, policies and expectations that may be contrary to this goal and resolved to improve these.

Membership – Once again we discussed the need to increase membership. Don Boyce suggested a membership campaign for 2008. Mike Holland has submitted his letter of resignation from the club.

Interclub – There will be an interclub in January.

P.R. – The newspaper will be notified about the success of the roast. We will also submit a letter of appreciation for the roast volunteers to the paper.

Social – Christmas dinner at Wyatt’s on Dec 6.

New Business - Jim Tolbert has suggested that we find a replacement for him as vice president. His health is not good.

Next meeting is January 15 at CASA office on 2nd Street in Albany.
