Roast Committee Minutes Final Roast Committee Meeting, December 3, 2007 The meeting was held at Wyatt's Restaurant beginning at 12:10 PM. Present were: Don Boyce, Shirley Stewart, Janice Brown, George Kurtz, Val Decker, Wendy Brownell and Bob Stalick. Absent were: Wally Ordeman, Clare Rollings, Clay Dluehosh, Dustan Johnson, Rob Blickensderfer The meeting agenda was to have each person present talk about what went well about the Roast, what needed improvement and to state whether we wished to do a Roast again in 2008. Other than the financial report, the following statements are not attributed to any single person: Financial Report: Val Decker reported that the final net proceeds totalled $7008.03. Some of these proceeds belong to Kiwanis, and the remainder are to be given to CASA. Final numbers are to be determined. What went well. The auction went well, with more money made than last year by over $1,000. The Roast was a lot of fun It was impressive, classy The decorations were creative and well done Gwen Marchese did much of the artwork for us and did a great job. The setup and raffle were simple and well done It was nice to have greeters What needs improvement: Selection of Roastee. Try for someone what is still active in the community. Concern about the effect of the Roast on Kiwanis membership. Some feel put-upon because of the expectation to pay for the auction and to buy tickets. Some can't afford it. Consider moving to an earlier date, in late October, for example, to capture SnowBirds. Give centerpieces away (since few were sold) or give to auction winners or put tags on chairs. Try a different caterer or a different menu (the beef was tough!) Give a drink ticket with each meal to help give some incentive to boost bidding. Contact DH earlier and ask for co-sponsorships and news releases. Different music, perhaps WAHS choir or ? Have two or more placard holders during the auction. Try to get more people involved so the tasks can be distributed better. How many centerpieces do we need? They need to be ordered in advance by about a month. Suggest that more is better than not enough. Recommendations: Consider doing it again or choose a different major fund raiser. General feeling was to do it again. Roaster possibilities: Fred Koontz, Wally Ordeman, Tim Reid, Frank Morse. Others? |
